My wife and I have just installed video cameras for security, we had no idea what was happening while we slept. There is a white cat who hunts baby rabbits in our yard, quite successfully I might add, plus we caught our neighbor breaking into our daughters Jeep.🤬

I’m amazed at how tough and strong wild animals are. Cats are no slouch either. You mentioned the cat and bobcat meeting, but even a big feral cat wouldn’t have a prayer. The bobcat is wild, 3-4 times its size, and can kill deer. It’s a giant cat, lol

Living in Australia I know all too well about feral cats. The wildlife has been dealing with not only them, but also fire ants and crazy ants, cane toads, and other such introduced species that failed to adapt to the Australian ecosystem and just created more problems for them to deal with. The only good thing I've seen so far is that the fire ants love to eat cane toads. The rest is all about declining population of native species due to introduced and abandoned pest species - cats - that are also hunting the native wildlife. There's also Myna birds they take over nest sites that native species would build a nest in and actively chase them out. If you live in Australia, and you are not planning on breeding your cat, get it desexed. It will help limit the number of feral cats out there. Their numbers get so bad sometimes shooters get permits to go out and cull the pest problem population.

maybe you should tell the full story, in australia they threw away domestic cats these have controlled the rats, the australians began to kill the felines, causing a proliferation of millions of rats that are devastating australia and destroying all vegetation and crops and have also eaten lizards and bird eggs when the underground vegetation is destroyed, the water runs 10 times faster causing drought and now fires, the human being is a stupid killer and does not learn this, it already happened in the middle ages and ended with the black plague

@@gatoninja4387 And then those cats get abandoned by their owners and revert to their wild instincts, making them a feral cat for real. Feral cat is not just an ordinary cat, it is a cat that has adapted to living in the wild because it's owners abandoned it or they are no longer able to care for it. Whatever the reason, cats that are breeding in the wild, because their owners did not consider what would happen if allowed to breed in the wild, is the reason feral cats exist. If a pair of domesticated cats breed without human intervention, they're doing what the wild cats do in nature. Thus becoming a real and problematic feral cat.

There are cats here that the neighbors take care of. Just random outside cats. There have been a few different ones here and there but there are 3 original cats that have been here for the past few years. They just randomly showed up but I've seen them grow since they were a little bigger then kittens basically. I've seen them encounter raccoons outside but without fighting more with curiosity. These cats look very healthy , never injured or sick. Mind you they have a reliable source of food and water everyday with multiple places to hide so they have the advantage there. It's astounding to me to see them out there everyday in good as shape as they are granted it's not the same as what's displayed in this video these cats being in the wild. The cats next to me by the neighbors house is just a standard house in a standard neighborhood not the wild.

I try to keep the feral cat population down where I live because of their huge impact on natural wildlife. I've removed dozens of them from this rural area where I live. Unfortunately, people bring cats out here and drive off, leaving them to fend for themselves. If they are not sterilized they breed even more of them.

This is why it pisses me off so badly when people don’t see the importance of spaying and neutering their cats. So much bad comes from this, the cats damage the wildlife and ecosystem, they introduce sickness and illnesses, and it also creates a quality of life for the cat that is terrible.

I would hate to see any kind of cat (no matter if it’s feral or kept as a pet) to get attacked by a predator. This is why you should always keep your cats indoors. Raccoons are much stronger than feral cats, so it would definitely severely injure or kill a cat that is not careful. edit: I understand the effects of how cats can be bad for the environment, but I would still feel bad if someone's pet cat got attacked and killed by a predator like a coyote. Although it's the owners fault for letting their cat loose in the first place.

Had a feral "but approachable" huge Tom cat, named... Well.... Tommy the Cat 😁. He roamed our home/farm Stead for 11 winters. We did feed him when he looked like he needed. He kept the rat/mouse/snake population down. No Raccoon wanted a second piece once they tried him once. They would scatter when he would basically do a Ric Flair wrestling entrance.... Meowing instead of wooing 🤣. It was great. Saw him leap off the second floor of a barn and catch a bat at sundown. Looked like the cat Matrix. He fought dogs. We didn't have coyotes around in our area then or wild pigs. But I've seen a few of each the last few years. I'd like to think he'd make his own foursome stable. A wild boar, coyote, and Raccoon if he was around today 😂... Sadly, it was a car that got him. Mine.... He was under the hood in winter looking for warmth. I started the car and heard a terrible noise. I opened the hood and saw he was badly wounded. I was 17,abd yes I had tears in my eyes. See, he also protected my female cat. Named Sassy Cat. Best cat ever. She was deformed. Her rear was adult sized but her frt was kitten sized (more or less)... He saved her from attacks. Once fought a badger to stand still after the badger snatched Sassy up. He knew me, i nursed Many of wounds. These we're beyond aby skill to heal though. I did what I had to do. But first i loved on that cat for 15 min. He knew.... He knew what a gun was for, saw me hunt plenty of times. He gave out a last meow, put his head down.... I'm 45 now ... Miss both those cats ... He was the first i put down outside of Hunting. My father loved that cat too. Only that cat. My fat saw me fighting the tears. He said, son it's okay to cry, and i saw the tears running down his face. As i sit here remembering this, it was the only time my father showed that kinda emotion. I never knew why he liked that cat. Just that he did. I lost Sassy a few months later. Same thing but she was in my fathers car. Belt got her... My father did the deed and let her rest. He told me a man has to be responsible for those in his care. Even if it means helping them along to heaven. Especially, if we played a part in their arrival. Never forget that lesson. Sorry fir rambling folks...

Catnip is attractive to feral cats and domestic cats and not bobcats because of ancestry. Almost all of our domestic and feral cats descend from African Wildcats. African Wildcats will detect fireant (give off the same chemical scent as catnip, which is a scent warning against insects), and then the African Wildcat will roll in the ants to get the insect-repelling scent all over themselves and thus help fight against OTHER biting insects. If you crush some fireants on your fingers or onto a toy, your cat will react to it EXACTLY like catnip, if not have an even stronger reaction, and even some cats that don't care about catnip will still go nuts for crushed fireants. Bobcats aren't native to the place that fireants are native to, and so never developed this method of insect-repelling.

These critters are too funny. I met a lady who was running a raccoon, squirrel and bat rescue. I used to walk around with baby raccoons in my jacket when I worked with wildlife.

As a Boy Scout our troop visited "the beaver lady" in upstate New York. She also helped raccoons who would visit. While we were there a huge mamma raccoon and her kits came for a hand out. She was missing one paw. She had chewed it off in order to escape the trap she was caught in. Don't mess with Raccoons.

Wouldn't it be nice if somebody owned that cat and kept it home? Feral cats are not loved by anyone. They come from horrible owners who let their unspayed ot un-neutered pets roam free, then they make more. Outside = in the food chain, speed bump, disease carrier. We had ruffed grouse in our area until a family moved in with a horse barn full of cats (30-40). The grouse were gone in 7 years.

That's a sad story. It amazes me how some neighbors up in the mountains think its perfectly normal to let their cats run free and even there there are laws against it. BB

Also...cats and opossums get along, because they have some of the same mannerisms. Having rehabbed two opossums along with having had cats? Yup! They get each other, and are both meticulous groomers.

I planted a trail camera in the woods all the way down here in Key Largo. It was right on a feral cat colony that was fed every day by a local celebrity indigent type of fellow. I titled it "Cat Colonies Exposed." I would add that human activity drives mid-sized carnivore populations way up. It is expensive not only because mid-sized mammals have higher metabolisms and therefore eat more to maintain their body temperature. Plant-eating warm-blooded animals are supposed to outnumber carnivores at approximately a hundred to one. What a trail camera captures in wild areas anywhere near human settlement is actually a tragedy from end to end, sorry to say. We had a ground-dwelling species of "prairie hen" here on the east coast of North America called the heath hen up until 110 years ago. If a population of them could be recovered again today, they would go extinct all over again. I really wish people would secure their trash and stop the insane feeding of everything that has fur and whiskers.
