I used to live in an area of the city with lots of trees and larger 19th century houses. There were lots of places for racoons to do damage, even with the newer houses. In one case the racoon had got into an attic apartment and into the kitchen cupboards which backed onto an outside wall. I was told by wildlife control there were at least 85 racoons estimated per city block in that neighborhood. As quick as one was removed another family moved in. There is expensive damage that can be done to older houses that are wood framed and have wood soffits and porches. One thing that may help is cutting back trees that hang over roof lines. And racoons also love fireplace chimneys, so getting wire barriers over the tops can help. But they will still chew if they find a weak spot or an entry way under the porch or back decks. Either way have a professional do an assessment. Racoons can get rather feisty if you get too close.

Thank you for what you do. Without you, that poor Raccoon would have died a horrible slow death. Like humans, they are not meant to be suspended upside down. It causes organ failure and that's not pleasant to put it mildly. If people understood that, they wouldn't laugh, well, not as hard anyway. A person can scream for help, but, not a lot of people speak Raccoon. I love the name of your company, it made me smile. Again, thank you!

Raccoons. Love them My grandpa every morning would sit in the back yard. Birds. Raccoons. Etc would come up to him and kick back. Wild is all I can say. He named them. You could call them and they would come. 3 of them use to come into the house. Walk into living room and just stare at you. He would feed them and they would stay 20-30 min then leave. They were like well trained pets.

I wouldn't mind having an armadillo that did that. Ive lived in Texas 7 years and still haven't seen one. Well, a dead one but i think it was one of those stuffed ones that you stick on the shelf that looks like someone chucked out a car window.

"Mike K" "monikag1323" I recently met someone who says she has always carefully fed wild animals in a certain area of her back yard and she claims she can better control them than if she tried to set traps, poison, barbed wire etc. She actually could be called, and would be called "bleeding heart" for animals but anyway, she said that by carefully putting food in a certain place far enough from her home the animals would come and eat what they want and then just go away and not go near her house. Perhaps a lot of people would not have the same results though.
@mikek39512 жыл бұрын
@@obscurelyvague My grandpa never put food out like that. It was crazy with him and those animals. There was so many that never came close to the house unless he called them. But one. A possum. Every morning that possum would walk to the sliding door. If door was open or not. The possum would sit there and would never come in. But ya people should be very careful with wild animals because they are just that.

They're little urban critters, they don't usually do too much harm. They also generally live around one area their whole life so I don't know what displacement would do to a raccoon.

@ Della Lynn. In many places, the animal needs to be released within 50ft of where it was caught or destroyed. Laws prevent relocation because of spreading disease to another population of animals. Where ever the raccoon is relocated to , it will most likely try this again on another house.

...well, had you been the owner of that roof...and now paying for repair and the service call....would you have been laughing then? Huh? (smile)! The only good thing to all this, is that the racoon's body and water resistant fur, PLUGGED the damage it had done. Can you imagine the damage -->mold, wood product warp, ceilings...that that hole exposed to water ingress, would have done to this person's home? Lordy...was he 'lucky' that the varmint actually stopped that heart ache from occurring by its trapped body in the damage. Very lucky, in this event. The bad news...is that that varmint will be back...at night...to try somewhere else on the same roof. For myself, I'd bait the ground with raccoon food and wait for a couple of weeks for it to return..and I guarantee you, it would not get within 20 feet of my house walls...nope. It would get added to my back lot land fill....and yes, you are legally able to dispatch any varmint that has proved to be a pest and killing your livestock or damaging your property. The safest way to do that...is with an air-rifle at bored to .22 caliber. Totally silent...and won't alarm the neighbors. FYI.
