Put the right bate in and they will fall for it every time. With ground hogs I found they can't resist watermelon! Trap them and then take them to a safe place. Everyone wins.

Thanks for commenting! I always appreciate advice, living by myself in the woods. Damn raccoons. It wasn’t the bait (a can of cat food). I didn’t set the trap properly, so he easily escaped.
