I hate how Darkside Chronicles changed the relationship of the Ashford twins. In Code Veronica, there was something touching about seeing Alexia tenderly holding her dead brother's body on her lap after he woke her up with his last bit of strength. But Darkside changed it to her killing Alfred to make her more evil and uncaring :/...

Yeah I hated Alexia's character change. In the original, Alexia and Alfred lived in their own little world it seems, and thus they only care about each other at the expense of others. In Darkside chronicles, it seemed more shallow in comparison.

Geez you think! I analyzed the nuts and bolts out of why CVX stands out so much, and what CVX did that NO OTHER RE game has ever done, and how CVX could've evolved into something that made Claire tell the greatest RE story of all time. [sorry for the plug RC cinema :)] but watch my vid on what everyone missed in CVX and about Claire. After that analysis, I saw DSC and it was SO CRINGE, I had to force myself to watch it till the end. The downgrade from CVX in DSC is ASTOUNDING! The only positives I recall is the improvement in Steve's VA and Alfred's VA and mannerisms. (If bill Houston gets all the hate for sounding so canadian in CVX, why not Alyson Court in DSC lol) Here is just ONE OUT OF SEVERAL instances of this downgrade. Does everyone remember Claire was trying to find chris? In CVX, guess who finds Chris within 5 minutes... STEVE, who also inadvertently suggested that Claire should send a distress message to Chris... something that ended up saving her life in the end. CVX Steve did in 5 minutes what Claire couldn't in 3 months. CVX Claire owes her life to CVX steve at least TWICE! In DSC, huess who finds Chris... Leon... After 3 months of Racoon City and Leon's position at Stratcom, he suddenly remembered he has the connections to find Chris. So in DSC, Steve was more useless, but had a better VA. Let me know if you want more details. Peace!

25:22 Laughing Montage. Gotta give credit to the actor and actress playing Alfred/Alfred as Alexia (when speaking as Alexia cross-dressing) because they both act-out the same laugh in Alfred's mannerisms, so always got a good chuckle out of them both making sure to get that right while playing as Alfred.

I think what could have also been a big problem for Steve is the lack of social interaction with people his age. Assuming that the people in Rockford were adults, that could mean Steve didn’t have anyone he felt he could talk to for a very long time. His anger and hatred festered within his mind, but not his heart. Also he would have missed out on interacting with girls his age. That could be a reason why he creeps on Claire a couple of times. Not an excuse, but a possible reason. If Steve got to survive CV’s story, he would have had a helluva time learning about adult life, how to get a job, taxes, etc. Fantastic video, very informative!

17:38 In the Code Veronica novel, this scene is told from Steve's point of view, and, although he shortly considers kissing her, he soons changes his mind, not wanting to do anything since he's not sure if she would like that or not. So he holds himself back, way before Claire shows sign of waking up. The general scene is much less awkward than in the game.

@@raccooncitycinema You're welcome! Yes, I like Steve too and I do think his personality and character evolution make sense with his backstory. And yes, this scene didn't really age well.. . But the novels really did a great job giving more depth to each characters of the series (both protagonists and antagonists) by switching points of view so the reader can get access to what their emotions, thoughts, and motivations. That make them more interesting when you play the games after reading (for instance, I'd never thought I'd see Nicolai from RE3 as an interesting and complex character, but the book paid homage to him). Code Veronica is both my favourite RE game and my favourite RE book, and I love the Ashford twins even more than before since reading it. CODE: Veronica is my favorite RE game along with 2. Sure, the anime-style villains make your head scratch, but the game oozes with atmosphere. Rockford Island is a truly disturbing place. The prison camp is modeled after a concentration camp, complete with the infamous ovens. Alfred and Alexia's relationship is clearly incestuous (the game hints at it more than once) and Alfred is a quite sick individual - I am glad I am not the only one who noticed the bottle and ashtray next to the armchair in the torture chamber. It's a game that deserves a lot of love.

@@raccooncitycinema Yeah, almost the same story here. RE2 was my first RE fix but, before I could play anything else, I stumbled upon a magazine detailing the upcoming games in the series: RE3, the N64 version of 2, and this mysterious CODE: Veronica of which they only had grainy and overexposed screenshots of video footage taken at an event but it was being presented as the "true RE3". I obsessed over it for a few years, since I didn't have a Dreamcast.

2:51 I'm back to provide just a few insights: - Shinji Mikami had shared a lot of data (conceptual artworks, photos, information, footage of the beta version, etc) to the French TV channel FunTV (that very channel who also made the behind the scenes videos of Silent Hill 2 and 3, available as an additional disc in the PAL versions of these games) for them to create a documentary about the making of Code Veronica. Among other things you mentioned in this video, one of the info was that Steve's hair was indeed changed because his early design looked a lot like DiCaprio. An archive, shorter version of this documentary (and other ones, about the making of other entries of the series) can be watched in the KZbin channel Biohasard France. It's obviously not in English though. - Moreoever, I finished reading the Code Veronica novel by SD Perry a couple of months ago. And, when Claire sees Steve for the first time, she does mention his ressemblance with DiCaprio. She doesn't say his name but comment on how he reminds her of "this actor from Titanic". It is worth reminding that the SD Perry's novelizationsvof each entry were overseen by Capcom. Not much, but I hope it provided a complementary information.

This is exactly what I was looking for, thank you so much!!! Incredibly interesting too! No one has ever mentioned it was in the SD Perry novels to me. That's really cool. Time to watch everything on Biohazard France and see how much French I still remember from high school 😁

@shibitoobscura3348 2 жыл бұрын
@@raccooncitycinema Ahah glad I could help. :) I would definitely recommend the SD Perry's novels to any Resident Evil fans, honestly. They contain an insane amount of details about our favourite characters, and also add the great subplot of Trent (which is, by the way, even referenced in the movie Welcome to Raccoon City: the little electronic device Wesker used in this movie directly comes from the novelization of the first game, except it's used by Jill to solve some puzzles). The ones that are additional stories and not direct retelling of the games (like Caliban Cove) are worth the read too. And, seeing the dedication and passion you put in sharing those Japanese guidebooks, I'm sure you'd enjoy finding more of the characters's backstories, which are developed in them. Ahah, good luck! :) They've really provided great exclusive content, even translating Japanese documentaries about the franchise themselves (also through their website, which was the opportunity for me to get access to most of Capcom's Japanese exclusive elements, fan-translated in my language).

@16:40 about the Nazi reference some sources also claim that the Rockfort Island prison was equated to a Concentration Camp. Although that does seem plausible, it's not just the Ashfords themselves but also the way it portrays the Umbrella Corporation's evil experimentation on the prisoners as well that could also be algorithed to it. Also notice Umbrella Security Service U.S.S. and Waffen Schutz Staffel also both have SS in it. Not saying that HUNK's Alpha Team unit or the Paris Division U.S.S. grunts Claire is seen battling it out with appeared Nazi like but in the course of other classic RE games including Zero and RE2 the way the just storm in and assassinate Dr Marcus and Birkin has that same added level of cold cut throat ruthlessness.
