That's got to be one of nature's coolest gifts. Watching a racer find it's way back home.

The exciting part is when only the best survive and you breed them for the next season. Then 1/4 you get a chance for something better. This way in about 4 years with enough numbers you will be in the front places. Good luck!

Keep the top three pairs of breeders with birds always coming in as the top 2 birds. Get rid of the rest of the breeders and try new breeders looking to improve for next year. Your birds are for the most part always 1-2 hours behind the winning birds in the club. Your birds are flying to other houses first or they just can't keep up. Either lighten them up on weight or train them better or get new birds. It may be all three. I can't say for sure which of them it is without seeing everything. On your training flights to 50 miles those birds should be coming home and in on the dime. They should beat you home once they are trained to 20 miles. Don't take them any further until they do beat you home at 20 miles several times. Don't let them fly around until they come home and in first. If they don't, change something and make it happen. You train to not lose birds, that's bad. Train to lose and you will do better. To win pigeon racing is a numbers game. Make that coop twice as deep, so you could start out with twice as many birds. You could easily do that. Learn where most of the birds are coming through the most right past your house and train a lot at the cut off point, so once they pass there they will know where they are and breakoff for home for the shorter races. Your flying against people that have more than 62 birds from one loft in the races. They understand it's a numbers game. The more the better. Don't respond to this just take it or leave it. I like your love for the birds. Not Your Birds - The Birds. Your Birds wording is to much attachment. With The Birds it's easier to get rid of them when you need to. Get too attached and it will keep you from doing what you must do in training and culling if you want to do better that is. Take it or leave it. Think on it.

They recover quite well, just wonder what are you doing with yours. Are you feeding them well enough so they can perform their peak performance?
