Whats a better winch? Red winch or gigglepin?
@DanielKistler4 жыл бұрын
That’s more up to the person who’s buying haha. It’s like a Nissan and Toyota thing. I prefer red winch for many reasons but it doesn’t really mean one is better than the other!

Hey mate, great videos. I pretty know to 4b. My son went out in my GQ and he said he could not get it out 4 wheel drive so drive home 50 KMs on highway (I just selected two drive no trouble). It started binding while turning right in left wheel on the way home, he didn't stop and keep driving. I took it for a driving and get a clicking sound like the auto hub was trying to engage and four-wheel drive and after a few big bangs which I felt thru steeling wheel. I had a look inside. The wheel bearing locking plate only had one screw which was loose and second screw I found in the grease. Locking plate was a bit warped. Wheel bearing seal torn. Swivel bearings look badly worn. I can see cv rubbing on the bottom of the housing, as there is a shiny groove and cv has like a burn ring like it been very hot. The axel does not look bend to me, by eye. But I guessing it would be? Would a bend be obvious to see? Also found both nuts on my drag link loose, guessing from the vibration. Any help I appreciate cheers Graham
@DanielKistler4 жыл бұрын
Hmm interesting. Could be a number of thing, driven for a long time on loose wheels bearings, worn out king pin bearings, collapsed stub axle internal bearing. Unlikely the housing is bent but wouldn’t rule it out, will be hard to pick up without measuring. Also if you run auto hubs and don’t put atf in the transfer you can run into problems with the thicker oil causing front shaft to rotate and try and lock the hubs in while driving in 2wd.
@grahambate33844 жыл бұрын
@@DanielKistler all the bearing look flogged and wheel bearing seal look like it been rubbing and is flogged too. My son said as I drove it up the road as I needed to take it out of the driveway. Reckon the wheels wobbly 45 degrees in 45 degrees out once I hit 60kms. I know I need to do all bearing, but worried if axel or cv is bend. Can C rubbing if cv on swivel hub. Can't physically see a bend in it

I couldn't physically do up the wall bearing locking nut to stop the disc from turning
@DanielKistler4 жыл бұрын
@@grahambate3384 interesting problem. Hard to make a proper diagnosis without seeing it. Try and inspect a bent housing and all bearings and see what you find.

He does a good job! Haha we will organise a bigger trip. I prefer to keep these drives with 2-3 cars. Easier to film and get more driving done. Also I don’t think the low mount would have been fun after 30-40 winches for the day haha will organise a high country drive👌🏻😂

Another awesome vid mate. What's your thoughts on winch recovery blankets? It seems like most of the winch truck guys never worry about them, where the rest of the 4wd world preach the importance of them, even with rope. Are you guys just running higher rated rope?
@DanielKistler4 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. Realistically we should be using them. We have to use them when we race (I think they actually scrapped the winch blankets??) but it has to be at the hook, so everyone usually zip ties it to the hook so it doesn’t move. In my opinion, if you have rope and are using a winch blanket, then it has to be over the hook, I’ve seen rope break lots of times and it doesn’t really do much. The rope we use is also a lot better than the stuff you’ll find on a normal low mount out of the box.
