It's not level across the top because you haven't used the top straps to tighten it down and custom fit it to your tailgate.

Lawrence Morrison 😂 thanks man! Took me way to long how to figure this editing thing out. I think I spent 5 hours to create a 1 minute intro! 😂 hey Lawrence...yesterday I went to this spot in Bartow Florida called carter road bike trails! OMG man! That park is crazy! I only had an hour or so to ride because it was raining and the park was going to close soon but it was a really cool park! You ever been or heard of it?

There are 2 holes on the inside part of the pad that allow you to secure it to your truck

Pride of ownership buddy - I dig it. You obviously care for your stuff/gear and I can relate. Couple questions: 1) With either regular short trips or long (3 hrs +) are there any kind of micro scratches from rubbing or pressure dimples, etc. on the truck tailgate after you remove the cover? 2) Is your downtube getting scratched/nicked up where it comes in contact with either the pad or straps?
@LeBoosLeisure4 жыл бұрын
Hi SoCal! I have had no scratches at all on the down tube but I just bought a item called a shuttle from ride wrap. It protects the Dow tube for that sort of thing so I know I will have no problems now. I also have had no scratches on the tailgate that I can see. I did a video on ride wrap and in that video I talk about and show the shuttle protector. It was $20 but will make sure that no scratches get on the downtube.

I dont like how it doesnt go all the way to the bottom on the tailgate part, I wanted to get one of these tailgate pads so that rocks dont fly up at the tailgate but it only looks like it covers the top half of the tailgate.
@LeBoosLeisure3 жыл бұрын
Hi wolf! I think it depends on the size of the tailgate but you could be right. My tacoma is a midsize truck so it def. would fit smaller on a full size truck. It still gets the job done though as far as transporting bikes.

I just bought one of these from backcountry and my middle insert that covers the handle & camera is 2 separate flat pieces, doesn’t look like yours or one in the pics. Wonder if they did a model change.
@LeBoosLeisure3 жыл бұрын
That must be a newer model for sure as mine doesn't do that. I would call race face and ask them.

Isn’t the metal rings to be able to lock it to your truck with a bike lock or something?
@LeBoosLeisure4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I can see using them for that but really it takes like 1 minute to detach and another 3 to attach it back on. I don’t mind taking it off. Even with the lock cable on it, someone could cut it if they really wanted it you know?

PSA: load your bikes with the front wheel facing the other way or risk rotor damage!
@marshalllevilasswell25354 жыл бұрын
With the rotor on the outside facing away from the truck? (I'm just making sure ik before I pull the trigger because I will be shuttling a lot of bikes)
@socalmtbr80264 жыл бұрын
@@marshalllevilasswell2535 Good question. I can see that applying to a single bike (or only a few but are spaced out) but if you're shuttling a bunch and can't separate them, all the bikes rotors are exposed to contact (either direction) with the exception of the last one (facing Jake Sims preferred direction loading left to right and front tire facing left towards driver side). Hmmm. Since it's your dime shuttling, maybe just make sure yours is the last one so there's no contact on yours? lol

The Gen2 Tacoma tailgate is narrower at the top...I'll bet that's what they designed it for. Your Gen3 is much wider.

Those padded separators on the inside look completely useless. Is there any padding at all for the down tube!?
@LeBoosLeisure2 жыл бұрын
No padding for the down tube but since I never have more than two bikes, I would position the bike where the padding is and it worked fine. Over all, for the price it is decent but there are more durable tailgate pads out there but they are more expensive too.

Hello. I Just ordered the large one off of Amazon. They are selling for 110 bucks right now. I think that they currently run 150 bucks normally in today's pricing, when not on sale. How's that pad holding up after three years?

Would this work for a road/gravel bike? I'm about to pull the trigger on a 20202 Tacoma and I'm trying to figure out the best solution to transport my bikes(road/gravel/mtb).

Is there much padding at the very top of the tailgate (not front or back)? Because that’s where most pads don’t have much and carbon bikes end up cracking from the down tube hitting it off road
