Racehorse to Event horse! First ever ODE

My baby boy went along to Dallas Burston to do his first ever One Day Event thanks to the wonderful Lands Eventing.
I didn't really know what to expect and he hasn't ever done the three phases on the same day. He had never done Dressage on grass before and he most definitely hadn't been in that massive arena with an amazing Indian wedding taking place (they all looked stunning) But the kid did me proud as always :0)

Just try slightly bending the tail after plaiting, the tail does not stick out naturally, I always found that this helps..

I think you were there with long time You Tuber Megan Elphick...so cool. ( she won the 70 cm) Archie's first ODE, how exiting. He will grow to love it more each time he goes out.

Yeah we were, we did the 80cm though. Saw her showjump but that was all. Great venue and lovely day out ☺️

I'm living in Switzerland and wonder if rising trot is mandatory or if sitting trot is allowed too in those dressage tests? In Switzerland it's only allowed to do rising trot in extended trot and "forward downward" in trot and only in the lower level. I'm so used to it that I don't think I would be able to ride my horses in rising trot through a whole dressage test 😅

Oh wow that’s really interesting to hear. No it’s not mandatory you can do either up to Intermediate/medium level which is when it becomes mandatory. My old horse was really bouncy so sitting trot was tough! 😂 Rising trot is better for him at the moment as he’s just used to someone standing up in the stirrups when racing so I’ll gradually introduce it and hope he’s easier to sit to than my last horse 😅
