I played this game a lot on the Wii. But unlocking Blacksmith was the bane of my childhood, since you had to do a local multiplayer game with four players, and for a long time, I didn't even have four Wiimotes. Luckily, my older brother had friends over one night and they brought extra Wiimotes. We only did one match in Monster Jam: Urban Assault, but it finally got Blacksmith unlocked for me. I now have a Wii U, which I use to play my Wii games nowadays (since my Wii could no longer read discs). Thankfully, I did have four Wiimotes. While some weren't working as well compared to the main two I use, I was able to unlock Blacksmith quickly because of that.
