Thanks, im going to go with the heavy springs and just add as much preload. I'll give it a shot. Thanks again for the help.

No problem and on the preload I ran around 1/2" up front and I think 3/4" in the rear which offered decent ground clearance. More preload will yield more ground clearance but it will also stiffen up the ride all through the stock. Springs are rated at 1" stroke so if you preload 1" you if takes more weight to get the shock to begin travel if you preload 2" it takes that much more before the shocks begin travel which yields a rougher ride because it takes to much weight to get the shocks to start working. If that makes since. That's why a lot of people run a lift so the can achieve the needed ground clearance without the rough ride.

Thanks Wolfs! And primos the ride is awesome with these, I have actually even stepped up to the heavies for a little stiffer ride. These are smoother and more predictable than the stockers.. They also say these do not sag like the stockers but I haven't had them long enough to determine that.

Is there a noticeable difference in ride height between the medium and the heavy dual rates? How much preload do you have now?
@mudandgutsoffroad10 жыл бұрын
JimnyLG You can achieve the same ride height with both but it takes more preload with the mediums to achieve it. I have added a quite a bit of weight to mine but with the heavies I have .5" preload up front and 1" preload in the rear to achieve 13.5" up front and 12.5" rear loaded with cargo but no passengers. I think I am going to try another .25" to .5" preload in the rear eventually and try it but it rides and handles so good ride now I almost hate to change anything.

Neil Davidson OK. I have an aftermarket cage, frontbumper, doors, winch and skidplate. Would you recommend going with the heavies? RT spring calculater says medium but I need the groundclearance and don't want to add much preload. Is there a big difference in ride quality between them?
@mudandgutsoffroad10 жыл бұрын
JimnyLG Personally I had so much preload on the mediums I think the heavies ride better. You can always try both, RacerTech will swap springs if you don't like the first set. I would go with the heavies if you ride like I do. Have you watched any of my ride videos? Do you ride similar?
@JimnyLG10 жыл бұрын
Neil Davidson Yes I ride very similar but I'm getting more into racing. Swapping the springs more often gets kind of expensive for me because I live in Germany and have to pay a lot for shipping. That's why I would really like to get the best setup with the first order.

Great video. I have a question, I am looking into getting a set of these springs. And a lift from them also. I ride a lot of trails and do some pretty good hill climbs. The hills we climb are really long, steep, and rough. Reasoning for the springs is the stocks have sagged so much I am bottoming out in the ruts losing traction and not being able to make the hill. Do you think the lift will make me to top heavy or should I just go with the heavy springs and call it good? We ride up Briery creek in Lewis county ky. There is plenty of videos to kinda get a look at the hills. I am able to climb undefeated every try. But twin hills I can't get the left side and my buddy's on 800s can. Thanks for help.

I would do both, I did both on my bike and loved it. I live in Tennessee where we do a lot of hill climbs. The springs should get you back to stock ride height while the lift will gain you a little clearance while also strengthen the frame.

Have you plaid with the high and low speed compression adjustments on these shocks?
@mudandgutsoffroad9 жыл бұрын
I don't remember where I had then exactly on my 800 but I am thinking I had them at about four of five from max soft. This offered a smooth ride without to much body roll in the corners, any softer and it felt unstable. I am sure you're shocks will be a little different than mine so what I would do is loosen them all the way soft and ride it to see how it feels. It should feel lose, then just tighten them a couple clicks at a time till it has what you feel is a good stable ride.

I just put the mediums on my Rzr s and had to adjust the preload to 1" front and 1.5" rear. I don't have the lift but do you not think this is a bit much on preload? Thinking I may need to go to heavies. Your thoughts
@mudandgutsoffroad9 жыл бұрын
These springs are designed to be run with 1/4" preload so with that said I would definitely go up to the heavies. I did the same thing and when I up to the heavies I think I still had 1/2" front and 3/4" rear to get the ground clearance I wanted.

They have a calculator on their website that factors in rider weight, accessory/gear weight, and environment to give you our recommended spring

Why would you want preload? The factory doesn't come with rebound adjustment, so if you don't have preload you're not going to have "the buck"? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Roger Evans honestly I'm not sure! It sure made a big difference in my 900. And I didn't have that many miles on it

How was the riding difference with these installed Neil?
@codywelter31516 жыл бұрын
Are these made to just go on with out compressing
@jordans.19106 жыл бұрын
Cody Welter yes, take you collar about an inch from the top after cleaning your threads. Make sure there is no compression on the stock springs so you can take off the spring retainer on the bottom, slides off the bottom. Then adjust your retainer up as needed to fit the new springs and the adaptors. Put on the retainer then tighten collar until you can grab the springs and wiggle them a little with no play.

Why did you go with 1.5" preload?
@mudandgutsoffroad7 жыл бұрын
gmax876 I added a little extra for the added ground clearance!
@gmax8767 жыл бұрын
Neil Davidson Let's say you didn't need the ground clearance, would you get more travel and a softer ride with less preload?
