I had to re skin a 36 coupe trunk lid ,, took the old skin off, went to a junkyard and layed it on to different roofs to find a correct crown ,, the rear half of a 4 door 56 plymouth that was picked over was perfect ,, cut it across the b pillar and right next to the back glass ,,,

Yea, that shrinking disk leaves you questioning if you are doing the right thing doesn't it?? Leaves some pretty "scary" marks !!! Do you ever "tilt" the dollies when you hold them behind the metal you are trying to re-shape ?? I found I could get some pretty "controlled" changes by only holding one "edge" of the dolly against the metal. Tapping the hammer lightly on the metal, you can definitely find the edge and know a tiny bit of movement and you are working "off-dolly". Obviously, too much tilt can lead to making lines from the edge of the dolly. ;o(

Yeah shrinking disc leaves some wears marks but you cannot feel them. And I didn’t want to go too crazy on the little hammer marks from the previous repair. The last 10% takes 90% of the Time

Nice work going on here! On the pullmax flagging tool, I’ve found it to be problematic. The radius of the bend that it tips is too big, not crisp enough. Plus the imprint on the face of the panel that you had to wheel out. Plus the problem going around corners that you are working around by welding in a patch later. You might try using a tipping die in the pullmax first. Cut the panel (including the curved corners) oversized by your flange width - say 1/2”. In several passes, tip the flange up, including around the corners. Once you have a nice crisp flange turned to maybe 30 degrees you change dies to a 90 degree V set to detail the flange. You may need to slightly trim the flange height around the corner turns to 3/8” or so to let the flange shrink more easily. If you don’t already have it, get Fay Butler’s pullmax book - it shows using this die setup and loads of other super useful techniques.

If your customer would have needed to go find new doors I’ll bet they would have cost as much as your power hammer was to buy. After all, how many roadsters did Ford build in 1936?
