Robert Shaw should have won the Academy Award that year for his performance in Jaws. No other actor could have done the USS Indianapolis scene like he did. That scene alone was more terrifying than the actual shark scenes.

I saw Jaws the first Saturday after it was released. I was stationed at Lowry AFB in Denver at the time,summer of 1975. I sat outside the theatre for 2 hours for the showing 2 hours later. I got to know the people in line with me very well. We sat together in the movie and when the fisherman’s head drops out of the hole in his boat,the girl in the seat next to me jumped into my lap she was so startled! Made the whole waiting process worth it. I grew up in Clearwater Florida and went scuba diving with my pal Peter all the time. Since I saw that film I haven’t stepped a toe into the ocean again. I can watch shark week with no problem but I can’t go into the ocean!🙀🙀🙀

I met Richard Dreyfuss at the Rhode Island Comicon last month, Nov. 2019...after waiting on line for 4 hours. He and his wife bought candy and granola bars and fruit snacks for all of us who waited on line...(he's a talker...loves to talk on and on). Now we were only supposed to get his autograph and pay for a photo op separate...but because we waited so long, they bent the rules...I took about 5 photos with him on my cell. He and his wife are so sweet and kind...I got him to autograph the inside pamphlet of my Jaws DVD too! I will never forget that day!

Are you saved? If you died tonight would you go to heaven or hell? The Gospel, which means the Good News is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. Although God's creation was created perfect, having no death, sickness and disease, the creation became corrupted through Adam and Eve in them disobeying God. In this rebellion the creation became fallen through the curse of sin and mankind became separated from God. This world is fallen, but God offers reconciliation to him through his provision at the cross. Ultimately God will restore his creation to perfection when he returns but those that who reject his offer of redemption will remain condemned by their sins and go to hell. John 1:1,14 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. Love Dreyfuss and love the stories. Hate it when loud, overbearing hosts & hostesses (so full of themselves) constantly interrupt to put their own spin on subjects, mostly to let the world know "look at me, I'm still the center of attention here." That's most annoying of all. I wish they'd just shut up and let the guest talk. They fear that if they let the room wind-down and decompress, listeners will fall asleep and "ratings" will plummet. Not so. Not true at all! Listeners don't want bells & whistles. They want meaningful (substantive) conversation. They want to listen and learn -- AND to laugh.

I saw "Jaws" in a drive-in theater when I was 10 years old. It scared me so badly, I didn't even like being in the deep end of a pool for years afterward. The fact that you rarely saw the shark, but usually only saw his fin, made it that much scarier.

Years ago I went with my family to Disney World. While waiting to get into a show, they showed an interview with Richared Dreyfuss talking about Jaws. When he was 1st offered the part by Spielberg, he called his agent. His agent said never do a water picture, they are disasters and told Richard to turn down the part which he did. A week later Dreyfuss was having 2nd thoughts about turning down the part so he called Spielberg and asked him if the part in the shark movie was still available. Spielberg said it was so Dreyfuss took the part. Said it made his career.

Oh my god. So hilarious. Never heard this before. Best scene was in the cabin of the boat and the three men we’re telling their stories.

Robert Archibald Shaw (9 August 1927 - 28 August 1978) was an English actor and writer. Beginning his career in theatre, Shaw joined the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre after the Second World War and appeared in productions of Macbeth, Henry VIII, Cymbeline, and other Shakespeare plays. With the Old Vic company (1951-52), he continued primarily in Shakespearean roles. In 1959 he starred in a West End production of The Long and the Short and the Tall. Shaw was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for his role as Henry VIII in the drama film A Man for All Seasons (1966). His other film roles included the mobster Doyle Lonnegan in The Sting (1973) and the shark hunter Quint in Jaws (1975). He also played roles in From Russia with Love (1963), Battle of Britain (1969), Young Winston (1972), The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974), Robin and Marian (1976), and Black Sunday and The Deep, both of which were released in 1977. Died to young RIP.

I saw that movie when I was a kid in 1976, at the theaters. I was probably like 8 or 9. I had no idea at the time, how close I lived to where they filmed it.

Hearing his unchanged voice telling a story about a boat sinking etc.... reminds me of the scene where hes telling Ellen Brody the story about his shark encounter.. while eating chief Brodys dinner

I've always found it puzzling that the biggest stars of 70's cinema never made it past the decade. Richard Dreyfus and Burt Reynolds just disappeared, they had both had occasional hits in the 80's. 90' s and onwards, gone.
@bryanismyname75837 жыл бұрын
Both Dreyfuss and Reynolds received Oscar nominations in the 1990s. So they didn't really disappear, but you know they are also now pretty ancient.

The fact that Bruce* didn't work most of the time is the very reason that the movie was so successful (and scary): Steven Spielberg was forced to use other methods to ratchet up the tension since he couldn't show the shark. Many many horror movies since that time have employed the same method. * In Finding Nemo, the shark is named Bruce because this is a tribute to the shark in "Jaws". And the shark in "Jaws" was named Bruce because that was the name of Steven's lawyer!
