please do another HBO on-the-road special with 5-6 episodes like last time. watching you guys BTS still ripping into each other was some of the best streaming i've experienced in a long time. the emotional bits were unexpected, and whoever you had editing/producing that show was on point. just wonderful stuff.

around the 11 minute mark, when they're all riffing on Jason and Sean never having read a book and asking to explain what a book is, Rachel says, "You know how you staple things? Well shift the staple to the long end of the page." Then a few minute later she says, "Its like Cue Cards you can hold." This had me rolling on the floor laughing and is so funny

"the way we solve problems in this country is through democratic process" (40:45)
@rtorosyan Жыл бұрын
"If you vote for a conservative President, part of what you are voting for is, if there is a vacancy on the Supreme Court, while that president is in office, that President will appoint a conservative to the court. Or conversely with a liberal. If you are voting for a liberal president, it is with the understanding that if there's a vacancy, there'll be a liberal appointee. When that system gets broken, you are separating outcomes from the vote, and you are making people feel like the vote doesn't matter. And in fact you are making it so their vote doesn't matter, which means our democracy is getting weaker. Whoever wins or loses any particular fight, the connection between people's desire and the outcomes they get from their government should always always be the lode star, because that's the thing that's under assault from people who want authoritarianism, and rule by force, instead of rule by vote."

Not to get too pedantic, but the whole discussion by self-admitted “jailhouse lawyers” around the 45:00 mark demonstrates the danger of amateur legal advice. The axiom “ignorance of the law is not a defense” is not universally true. In the 1989 “Cheek” decision, the US Supreme Court held that a good-faith subjective misunderstanding of the law is a valid defense to charges of income tax fraud because that crime required the violation to be “willful.” This would be one of those “exceptions that proves the rule” situations. I will now show myself out….

"In an oddly overlooked ruling, an Obama-appointed federal judge, Cynthia Bashant, dismissed the lawsuit on the ground that even Maddow's own audience understands that her show consists of exaggeration, hyperbole, and pure opinion, and therefore would not assume that such outlandish accusations are factually true even when she uses the language of certainty and truth when presenting them (“literally is paid Russian propaganda")." The problem is that a lack of understanding is what make Rachel Maddow viewers, Rachel Maddow viewers.

What Bashant actually said rather the OAN interpretation of it... 'Judge Cynthia Bashant ruled in May 2020 that anyone who watches Maddow’s show “would follow the facts of the Daily Beast article; that OAN and Sputnik share a reporter and both pay this reporter to write articles.” “Anything beyond this is Maddow’s opinion or her exaggeration of the facts,” the judge wrote at the time. “Maddow had inserted her own colorful commentary into and throughout the segment, laughing, expressing her dismay (i.e., saying ‘I mean, what?’) and calling the segment a ‘sparkly story’ and one we must ‘take in stride,’ ” Bashant added. Amazing what a bit of spin bias can add to the facts. You're welcome.

I heard Ms. Maddow say "Why would anyone vote for someone with a felony conviction?" As someone with a felony conviction, I found it funny how "progressive" she really is. No thought of context or anything. Just slap a label on someone and move on. Sounds familiar. Also, no one called her out on this. Disappointed all around, don't know how the rest of the interview went, I lost interest.

Guys, made the comment before but you’re completely fk’n up my Monday Spotify which I look forward to so much with these political fools and as ever ALWAYS from the predictable one side. Please please stop being political. Particularly with proven liars like RM. Otherwise go full in and offer balance. All least Maher offers people he doesn’t agree with. Another pod I can’t fkd bear to listen to. If there was any balance I’d listen to everyone but same pathetic blind lovein. Back to listen next week.

You know, it's occassionally good to hear people with different views than yourself speaking. Unless you're live in fear of cognitive dissonance and having to wonder if perhaps... just perhaps that there are more perspectives with value than you can cope with. It's the adult equivalent of 'la la la, I can't hear you'
@mattconnolly6341 Жыл бұрын
@@oafee1053 You didn’t read my point clearly. Of course I listen to all opinions but this is a great amusing entertainment podcast. If they’re going to go political, go all in and have both sides. What’s frustrating is they only ever have one blinkered perspective. I think we have enough politics imo. Have no issue listening to opinions I may disagree with so the point you’re making to me is the point I’m making to them.
