Snow White is a much older story than the movie from the 1930s or even the Grimm tale. I studied as an exchange student in Kassel, Germany, the town where Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm wrote it down, along with many other famous fairy tales, in the 19th century. I say wrote it down instead of just wrote it because all those tales were old oral traditions (folk tales) that had been passed down by town storytellers for centuries. They did it to preserve that part of their history and culture as Napoleon was conquering his way East across Europe. I also lived and worked in Japan for 14 years as a language teacher. Anywhere you go in Japan, or in the world for that matter, is rich with folk tales and local legends. I wouldn't dream of making any major changes to traditional literature because it would blur the window they provide to regional history and culture, not to mention be culturally insensitive.

My race didn't get in the way of me idolizing the heroism of Luke and Erik, the brash confidence of Han, and the wily wit and intelligence of Leia. So I take issue with her talking about representation as if my skin color is all that matters. It doesn't. And while she's too young to see it, she's doing FAR MORE HARM with her berating and attacking people who don't like the lazy crassness of just casting a half Hispanic girl to play Snow White. Snow White does not need YOU Miss Zegler. It is a timeless fairy tale out of old Europe. You are a spoiled girl from New York, who is so smug and self-absorbed you can't see yourself in the light that I see you in. Literally no one asked you or Disney to "fix" a cultural tale. I watched the original at a Drive-in- aged 7 [1971] and my late mother telling me why she was called Snow White. I will be sticking with that explanation rather than a bloody snowstorm. If they want stories full of non-whites-write NEW stories-rather than pinching old ones and changing them. Coming to a cinema near you-Shaka Zulu-starring Tom Holland. The source material is a an 1812 German fairytale written by the Brothers Grimm and loved by generations of children. The 1937 Disney animation stayed pretty much true to the source material. In fact the original Disney animations that used well-loved fairytales stayed true to the source material. Zeglar only proves that she has done zero research into the history of the story, and ‘rewriting’ classic literature just goes to show how little regard she has for her craft, and for the countries that the source material belongs to. Little Mermaid remake was an insult to the the Danes. Disney just needs to stay awake from classic stories and create new vehicles for these young actresses. Tell American stories.

The backstory is not only stupid and childlike but doesn't make sense at all...snow is white and doesn't need the white modifier. If she survived a forest fire would her name be Fire Hot or how about Sunny Bright if she were born during the day or Night Dark for a nighttime birth. I remember watching Mickey and Goofey as a kid. Their message was not lost on me. I looked forward to the Sunday Disney and Saturday cartoons for the messages they were sending at the time. I wanted to be Captain Hook as well as many charactors in cartoons. They did their jobs well. Didn't try teaching me the meaning a good commie, or a pleb to the studios or their message. The pay offwas exactly that; a payoff to the actors, the studios and there creative sources of my money. The payment I received in turn was not a "vision" or a "message" portrayed by a "thesbian" or left winger. I paid for and received entertainment, and the joy and happiness it created for me. I don't want nor do I need your "message". I just want to be entertained. Is that too much to ask for? You can't be happy with me liking you and be happy? Hollywood went woke and now they will go broke.

Being an European and growing up with the fairy stories of Grimm and the original Disnet film, I find this new film tasteless, especially with the narcissistic female lead with her ”opinions”. Rewritings should be made with care and expertise, not only to advertise crassly some ”progressive” values which not all of us share.

Families don't care, no one cares about this film. If I didn't watch KZbin then I would not know it exist. I have never heard anyone mention it in the real world, and that is a pretty good indicator of how many people are going to see it. I will give a prediction: I think this film will be an even bigger flop than the Acolyte, the reason being, the story for the Acolyte sounded intriguing, but a fairy tale remake just sounds childish, and with all the controversy and now Zegler insulting families which is the target audience, then I doubt that many will give it a second thought.
