The orange soaking into the fabric problem was probably caused by two things: very low pigment concentration in the cheap paint, too much fabric medium, and not using a white or bright yellow base layer.
@Saforra994 жыл бұрын
I also wanted to suggest using white as a base layer, because the orange probably is fairly translucent while white/black are often quite opaque and therefore have a cover better. Good luck + way to keep having amazing ideas + creative solutions!
@katiebales62743 жыл бұрын
Agree! Even on canvasses, you should do a white wash as a base to help the colors spread easier and pop. Definitely white everywhere then paint it all over.

The final garment really reminds me of a brazilian book called "O Caso da Borboleta Atíria" (The Case of the Atyria Butterfly). The main plot is about a butterfly called Atíria (which is actually a moth species) who solves a crime that happens amongst the insects in the forest. The book is illustrated with beautiful drawings in ink, and the artist imagined the protagonist with short black hair, a black dress and huge wings, very much like a fairy, and quite similar to your moth costume!

Seeing a professional, that has in my mind 'made it' so to speak, struggle in the way that I do, and be honest about it, gives me such a boost of confidence in my own work and helps me feel like I, too, can make it someday even as I struggle and stumble. The issue with the orange paint is it was used on black fabric. Yellows and colors that contain a lot of yellow, such as orange, tend to be very transparent and require a lot of layers. It’s almost impossible to make it stand out on a black backdrop when using paint. White would have worked better, but you actually did a wonderful job! It’s recognizable as orange and is very nice!

If you are painting anything on black fabric, black will absorb. So you have to start with a white painted background first so that the bright colors you seek will shine thru without being soaked into the dark fabric. I also recommend using a hairdryer to help dry your paints faster so that you are not adding more paint on paint on paint and having it bleed thru. And I also recommend making an indoor clothesline for hanging your projects up to air dry. I love the turnout, it actually looks very retro and old-aged with the patchy darken painted areas. but I think you should consider the primer of a white background or next time, use a white fabric and then paint the black over it since it would be easier and your brighter colors won't be darkened. I also love the Joan of Arc wig and the make-up added the perfect touch. Great job! Great share. I love that you have a great amount of storage area for your stuff. So jelly.

Also, would TOTALLY love a video on HOW to shop vintage. I've always considered my preferred style to be "simple, classy 'oldies'" clothes. I'm now just realizing I'm a child of the vintage. You've inspired me to tap into my true self, start trying to do vintage hair styles (my rollers are en-route in the mail) shop vintage and even be more artsy and creative (a video on clothes-making for dummies would be awesome too) but I'd have no idea where to start looking (i'm in a suburb outside NYC), how to look for quality, price etc. Would totally love a guide for newbies.

It came out really cute in spite of the trouble you had with it! The orange came through nicely.

„And we have fun here“... Well, except for Rachel. She doesn’t get to have fun. She gets to have panic attacks instead. 😂😭

I usually do a layer of white before doing any layer of orange yellow pink or red, it helps the colors pop more!
