Some (hopefully helpful) advice for the next time you work for epoxy sculpt: I work in layers when I'm working with it! So I'll make something, wait for it to harden up and then sculpt on top of that! BONUS! Waiting a bit for epoxy sculpt to harden up (but not COMPLETELY dry and hardened!) You can do more detailed sculpting! So if you ever sculpt a teeny tiny face ever again, make the base of the head, wait for that to harden, and then add the facial features so you don't end up smooshing it! THAT ALL BEING SAID: this turned out SO CUTE and now you got me wanting to sculpt tiny art nouveau women 😂

Aluminum foil works great to bulk out armatures for projects like these, and with clay that needs to be baked. Bonus hack: if you're sculpting a figure with a long skirt, you can totally skip sculpting the legs underneath. Just bulk out the shape with foil and lay sheets of clay on top like fabric.

My current "Make" project isn't exactly a make. My dad has asked me to repaint his vast collection of lawn gnomes. I paint with acrylic. He brought me spray paint, which makes sense. It's going in the yard. I'm finding it really interesting to mix colors. My arms look like a kaleidoscope each day when I get done, but when you get that perfect rosy pink flesh tone out of a few sprays of pink and yellow and just a spritz of white... *chef's kiss*. It makes me happy. The project is going to take me forever, but atm I've got that creative drive to do it. I just hope it lasts me 25+ some odd gnomes and other figurines before the weather breaks or I burn out.

I was wondering if you could bypass the whole sculpting process by taking an old barbie, making her they way you want the result to look (curl her hair, glue fabric to her to make the dress) and soak the whole thing in spray glue to make it hard. Then plastidip, then paint. I think I will try that myself at some point in the future when I am in dire need of a vintage lamp.

My advice about the apoxie sculpt and smooshy face issues: Mix up smaller amounts at once, and do the base layer first, and let it harden, and build more on top of it with fresh clay. If you do have parts where you added too much, it can be sanded, carved, cut, or filed away. If the bit of clay you're working with at any given time is too smooshy, walk away for 10 minutes and come back when it's firmed up a bit. (but don't forget about it hahaha don't ask how I know)
@amaeve1950 Жыл бұрын
You did a fabulous job sculpting with a very difficult medium. I use epoxy sculpt for doll modifications, the best part is because it responds so well to carving after the fact. That you were able to get as much detail in the face as you did, without carving and sanding after, is super impressive.

I love art nouveau stuff and i am very excited this year to be going to glasgow to explore a bunch of the charles rennie macintosh buildings, items, museums. Aaaaahhhhhhh! Its been a dream for so long Also i misunderstood the title and thought youd found an amazing lamp you were going to dress like and then photoshop yourself as the lamp. What you've actually done is awesome

It's somber, but see the cenotaph if you can. Bit more deco than nouveau, but the lions in particular are amazing to see in person. It was a work trip so I'll admit pretty much all I saw was on walks for dinner, but there is definitely some amazing architecture there

I love Rachels videos and have been a fan for years now. I still hope that one day she will attempt to make Glinda the Good Witchs pink ballgown dress from The Wizard of Oz. She would look awesome! Anyway, thank you Rachel for giving me something cosy to watch on a Friday evening. ❤️ Love from the UK. ❤

I paused at minute 22:48 to type this. It might not matter at this larger scale, but cloth effects are MUCH easier to do with Green Stuff. While it is soft, it's more elastic than Apoxy Sculpt and can do that "cloth draping" thing with ease. It's also great for very small details. I like to use Apoxy Sculpt for basic shaping and bulk, then use Green Stuff for details and fine tuning.
