@johnhalat6 жыл бұрын
Words like "singer" can be very tricky for non native speakers. You could explain that to us. It´d be interesting. ng + er. Words like singer and longer seem to be pronounced ina a different way. Longer seems to have the g sound. But here are lots os examples with ng+vowel.

can you make videos on reading words with ing in sentences and how to connect that sound with the following words ?is g read for example in..".my rings are" ??
@insspir4 жыл бұрын
According to Wiktionary - not in this specific case, rings - /ɹɪŋz/. When you're in doubt, I recommend searching for the phonetic transcription, the IPA is surprisingly easy to learn when you use it everyday. After some time, you will also learn the pronunciation patterns.

NG is a different sound and tongue position than N. The NG consonant presses the back of the tongue against the soft pallet. Check out this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6XLZqltmb2FoM0

Another digraph used to represent a single speech sound. I missed this one until now. Hopefully this is the last bit of 1st Grade brainwashing left to be extracted from my mind. Now I know that I'm pronouncing NEITHER the /n/ or the /g/ when I make this sound. This reminds me of the "dark L" in that it puts the tongue in perfect position to pronounce a particular following consonant. To argue that this is a vowel blown out the nose would necessitate arguing that /m/ & /n/ are vowels blown out the nose. They don't fully manifest as consonants until released into a following vowel. In a word like 'unkempt', the release of /m/ never happens, so it's just a brief hum sound before an unvoiced /t/. Oh well, no point fretting over it. The /ng/ sound has a much weaker release without a following /g/ or /k/. Compare 'thingy' vs 'hunger' or 'thinker'. Compare 'anger' vs 'hanger'. We omit the /g/ in 'hanger'. Using this digraph prevents the reader from knowing whether the /g/ is silent or not, so again the English learner must rote memorize the pronunciation of all /ng/ containing words.

We will pronounce The [ g ] in this case like the [ g ] in this word [ goal ] ...or not ...And could you please recommend a phonetics course cause I really like this science and I wanna increase my knowledge in phonetics ...
@rachelsenglish2 жыл бұрын
Hi! No, the NG consonant here would be without the G sound - it would just have the NG or [ŋ] sound. As for a phonetics course, I'm not sure if I know of one that I could recommend. But if you find one please let me know - I'd love to have one that I can offer when I get the request! :)
