I appreciate you talking about the levels of wetness in paper. This is tough to learn. Also, your facts are accurate, but it is the left side of the brain is analytical, the right side likes patterns. Different tapes have varied stickiness. Some have very little stick. They are good to use on watercolor paper.

Great tips/techniques, Rachel! Pretty psyched about those brushes, as I bought them 2 weeks ago. I have a big sumi-e goat hair brush (also wasn't that expensive) and I love how you can splay the hair and make really cool marks with it. I couldn't resist the calligraphy brushes because they have awesome points and hold plenty of paint...and a girl can't have too many brushes.
@rachelparkervarner Жыл бұрын
They are so great and SO cheap too! They do fall apart but they aren't expensive to replace.

I have some cheap calligraphy brushes but they drop so much of the hair. How do you stop that or prepare a new brush for painting?
@rachelparkervarner Жыл бұрын
I don't know how to stop it. Dickblick has a line that might hold together better

Hi Rachel , I loved your video and the techniques that you shared , and as a beginner hobbyist I really enjoyed your content. However , the statements you mentioned from the book you recommended about "the left and right side of the brain" are actually incorrect. I am currently working on my BA in psychology and this is actually a very popular myth in psychology. The way the brain works is not that simple unfortunately. There are regions of the brain that specialize in certain tasks but it is not split up via left and right side. Thank you for your time and expertise 👻🖤
@rachelparkervarner Жыл бұрын
That makes sense, the brain is much more complex but for the purposes of what the book is trying to teach a simplification makes things more clear perhaps. Congratulations on your studies, knowledge is something no one can take away from you!

Actually you have the brain backward. I’m a registered nurse and also read the book. As she explains it she is correct. The right hemisphere of the brain is the artistic side, because this is where we have our spatial ability and creativity, as well as intuition and music creativity. It is also the subconscious side. The left side of the brain is where logic, analytics and order come from. This is where our brain tells us something is cylindrical, like a tree, even though we can’t see the other side. It is where our brain tells us the color of sky, or that a house is cube shape even though we cannot see the other side. It is logic. We have to set the left brain aside or turn it off and think with the right side. We draw shapes, only what we see, using values and it forms into a beautiful piece. I hope this helps someone. 😊

Thanks! I always get my left and right backwards

The left side of the brain is the analytical side - the right is the creative side.
