The Études-Tableaux Op. 39 is the second opus of piano etudes composed by Sergei Rachmaninoff.
The Opus 39 includes nine études, this, an absolutely extraordinary one, humbly marked as opus 39, number 5 in e-flat minor, is the dramatic peak of both the Op. 33 and Op. 39 sets. Sergei Rachmaninoff composed his Études-Tableaux Op. 39 between 1916 and 1917, during a period of intense study of the works of his friend Alexander Scriabin, who tragically died in 1915.
The études-tableaux Op. 39 are the last works written by Rachmaninoff before he fled Russia with his family to escape the turmoil of the Russian Revolution.
The Étude-Tableau Op. 39 No. 5 in e-flat minor is the most difficult and dramatic of all Rachmaninoff’s études. It’s explosive character is passionate, tumultuous, despairing and somber. This étude combines the darkest dramatical pathetic and the highest heroism with the deepest possible lyricism. Not only this wide diapason of spirit, but also the enormously rich palette of intensity and nuance transcend each listening soul with a spacious range of emotional colours.
Because of its difficulty in both, harmonic language and pianistic technique, please be patient and let this tough, but fragile étude-tableaux Op. 39 No. 5 embrace your soul.

I love how most Russians think... very forthright while maintaining integrity such as this harbinger of a composition that says "You have a lot to compete with"... an etude served as an epinephrine that wakes the lazy guests, snaps them out of their sedated mood, and has them out of their chairs and on their feet in no time. Rachmaninoff did his Russian aristocracy, and the Russian Orthodox Church, a world of justice when he composed this... it's a great way to thank those who cared for him. I'm sure the Church misses him... my Dad was born around the time he died. Sincere condolences to the bereaved family and friends of Sergei Rachmaninoff...

настя после того как я в 20 лет в заповеднике посмотрел в глаза тигра в кустах а он посмотрел на меня я обратил внимание что стал внимательно смотреть в глаза всем животным включая конечно и мурзика это происходит молча но я смотрю в глаза рыб птиц ежиков насекомых собак рыбы в аквариуме и в океане я ощущаю контакт с ними днем позвал ежиху она ночное животное но вышла из укрытия с двумя малюсенькими ежатами жаб я глажу и они не убегают а глаза людей настолько отражают мир в котором живет человек но самые красивые глаза у маленьких детей особенно когда они улыбаются и отвечают на простые вопросы
