Rachmaninoff - Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 43

Rachmaninoff, wizard of the piano, meets Paganini, wizard of the violin. The result: the notoriously difficult Rhapsody - 24 variations on the 24th of Paganini’s Caprices - encompassing everything from knuckle-busting runs to the terrifying Day of Wrath medieval chant and the swoon-worthy 18th variation. In the summer of 1934 Rachmaninoff composed the ‘Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini’ at his summer home, the Villa Senar in Switzerland. It’s a concertante work written by for piano and orchestra, closely resembling a piano concerto in a single movement.

The 18-th Variation is probably one of the most beautiful and inspiring themes ever written by Sergei Rachmaninoff. It was featured in the movie "Somewhere in Time" and in many other productions.

Georgii Cherkin is my favorite Pianist number one in my book He is Absolutely wonderful I listen to him every single day i never get tired of listening and watch him play and he is definitely the new Chopin OK Beethoven Mozart all in one .He put all his feelings in his music and his expression is beautiful and put always a smile on my face and love in my heart!!,I just love him Wish he Wouldn’t leave so fast after is concerts is really hard to find the words to describe how wonderful he is.
