A piano reduction of a symphonic work is much like a black and white photograph. We tend to focus on the shape and shading on black and more than when we have color, where beautiful colors can almost overwhelm the shading and shapes.

Very different and very interesting; especially the different pianists for each movement, but overall a unique and satisfying experience.i. Thank you for the courage to do it. Bravo.

Eu amei ouvi-los e vê-los. Vocês são realmente ótimos pianistas. Esta segunda sinfonia de Rachmaninof é maravilhosa. (I loved wear and see you. You are really great pianists. This 2nd Rachmaninoff's Symphony is wonderful);

Incredible! Rachmaninoff famously raged that he didn't know how to write symphonies. Thank the powers that be that almost nobody agrees with him.
@sanjosemike31376 жыл бұрын
This opinion of Rachmaninoff came because his first symphony was a "public disaster." He always had a tendency to depression. But after this failure he stopped composing for almost 3 years. Dr. Dahl finally helped him break his bad streak with hypnotherapy. After the therapy he turned to compose his Second Piano concerto which was (and still is) a tremendous hit. But nothing beats his 3rd Piano Concerto, which is his very best work. It is a miracle. Sanjosemike

Its pretty good... but I can't help but feel the gal in the purple dress is trying to show off more emotion than she can actually express through her playing. In my most personal opinion, I'm just not feeling the power of emotions that resonate in this piece from this performance. すみません。。。
@5610winston7 жыл бұрын
I'm feeling the emotions, and I realize that the pianists have to cue each other, but the first pianist in the first movement is bobbing and weaving excessively. Where is the subtlety?

The third movement pianists demonstrate that, far from being the easiest movement, it is most difficult to maintain the lyrical lines and subtleties of the melodies on a percussion instrument such as the piano. Sad to say, the third is the only movement in this presentation that just doesn't work for me. It sinks, at times, almost into a 6/8 meter, and especially starting around 31:20, the bass line starts a booming percussive impact that permeates the rest of the movement, drowning out the later lyrical climax leading to the recapitulation. Not saying I could do better, but this movement just doesn't sound right on the piano.
@F4Fiddle2 жыл бұрын
I've always thought that Rachmaninoff's symphonies are exercises for him in writing a piece WITHOUT piano. The last movement of this one works better as a piano duet. The orchestral version is too heavy - it's supposed to be a dance and needs the space and lightness a piano provides whereas the orchestral version it is like dancers weighed down by lead boots.
