The moat important: Ochinikov -and I totally agree- is an underrated genius in his style. In Jazz, for me it's Greg Philinganes. All those underrated musicians are real and absolutely serious artists!

Besides the past, I felt lucky to see both : Mr. Ochinikov and Mr. Donehoe as jurors of the International Tschaikowsky Competition nowadays. They realized what had been just a lifelong dream and they did it!

He did the 2nd price together with Peter Donehoe (UK). That competition was very special to me in 1982. I liked Mrm James Barbagallo (US) with his unforgotten "Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini ", who died a couple of years ago....

...Vladimir Ochinikov was much talented, when he appeared on stage at Moscow Conservatory in his 20th. But for my impressions, he played too much technical. And today, you hear his upcomming raise and it sounds individual and matured. I like to listen to his arts.....

....Ochinikov is a giant and one from the very last , coming from the Neuhaus- education. This freaks where the best in the past! He has all my best thoughs and I like him to be the director of the legandary Moscow Conservatory! Donehoe wrote a phantastic diary of the 1982 Tschaikowsky Competition, but his music appeared boring to me, when he was young.

A great performance, but the best I’ve heard IMO is Horowitz version in Moscow in the mid 1980s. It’s just the way he plays, the flow of the piece I think that makes his version stand out from the rest, but then again, Horowitz, was one the best pianists of the 20th century.

Some pieces belong to Vladimir ...... and you can only appear ridiculous to play it after him.
