You know what's crazy?? Wendy sang live on her music show performances the like water performance. And also, fun fact that she performed 4/5 songs from her album in live for music shows and radio shows. What's amazing is most artist lip sync in their performance but she did it live, even overpowering the backing vocals, she doesn't rely in the backing vocals but instead overpower them. Too bad she didn't wins in her promotion 😭 When this rain stops is the one that will make you feel comforted. I think she trained herself many techniques to hit certain notes and thats what makes her separate from any other vocalist, she has various techniques she can use and can make her voice versatile. I don't know how much you know about Red Velvet's history, but Like Water was Wendy's first release after she went on hiatus for over a year and a half after being seriously injured in an accident while practicing for a music show. She fell from a 3-meter platform and broke her hip, wrist, and jaw (side note, she was alone when she fell so no one saw it happen, and Mamamoo's Solar is actually the one who found her and called for help). For a long time, no one really knew what Wendy's condition was or whether she'd ever be able to return to performing, so Red Velvet's future as a group was up in the air. Her coming back with such a beautiful song and album after so long was really emotional for fans who had been waiting for her return, and especially the line, "I just want to thank you for believing in me," really hit right in the heart strings.

Not just her jaw, but her cheekbone. That is the injury that actually could have completely ended her singing career. Everything else, she could have dealt with and been able to get along with as a singer even if the injury was permanent (maybe she would not have been able to dance after the pelvic injury). Just the cheekbone alone could have been it. First, it could have blinded her because the cheekbone is so near the eye socket. But as for the singing, if the cheekbone had healed improperly she would have pain the rest of her life just while speaking in normal tones, let alone singing and belting at full volume. She came out of it okay, which is the biggest blessing!

The last few months of 2019 were very upsetting times. The tragic deaths of Sulli in October and then her good friend Goo Hara in November shook the Kpop World to the core. Just when we thought 2019 could not end soon enough, we woke up to the news (here in the U.S.) the day after Christmas, that Wendy fell off stage and was very seriously hurt. Surely 2020 would ring in a better year until Mr. COVID introduced itself to the world.

Songs:i’d say Look / All Right for that early 80s kind of sound. I’m a huge fan of prince and chaka khan sound so i’d go with these two. For their vocal harmony, most of their albums they do that but go for their live/acoustic performances- like their cover of Milky way, and also their christmas tracks Would U / Remember Forever. For velvet tracks then look no further to one of these nights / automatic. Album: I can safely say their first album The Red showcases Wendy’s musical strength not only in terms of vocals but also her ability to switch her singing to fit their songs. at the end she did that to all of RV releases. But my personal fav gotta be Perfect Red Velvet. Of course Queendom also coined as one of the best mini album for 2021.

Also their b-sides are super diverse and worth checking, if you want ballad, power ballad, jazz, neo-soul, r&b, edm, pop, bubblegum pop, synth-pop, hip hop/trap, funk, chiptune, tropical house, worldbeat/euro pop, and disco. They've tried every possible genre out there and I just can't help myself but to love them for that. Wendy sings alot of ballad-y music, which I like. While "Like Water" is her latest song, one of my favorite songs from her is from her pre-Red Velvet days, when she was a rookie back in early 2014. It was an OST (Soundtrack) for a show called Mimi and the song is called "Because I love you". Another great trio, is the song "Doll" where Wendy and Seulgi sang with first Gen kpop singer Kangta of the SM kpop group H.O.T. This song was special to seulgi as it was her audition song that got her into SM.

I want to tell you because you are interested in red velvet, I will tell you a little about them. Did you know that the big group (RV) has been on hiatus some time ago because of wendy's accident? Therefore, the work of red velvet is highly anticipated by many people. In fact, it's not only awaited by fans, but all kpop fans and musicians in the music industry are waiting for. Wendy accident at the end of 2019 while attending a solo rehearsal. She fell from the stage 2.5m height, the accident broke pelvis, fractured right wrist and fractured right cheek. It made her have to recover for a long time, she was hospitalized for 2-3 months. The moment of the accident coincided with the red velvet comeback moment with the song "psycho". That's why Red Velvet doesn't attend all of their comeback stages on many music shows. Even so, psycho's song was very explosive, they got 9 wins, 3 triple crowns, music of the year (daesang) and win bonsang too, without promotion. The accident incident was widely discussed, because the SBS was considered not to have prepared the set properly, the lighting was not enough until finally resulted in Wendy falling, and not supervising the artist who was present, Wendy was found on the floor by a singer, namely Solar (mamamoo) and she then reported the staff then wendy was just taken to the hospital, who knows how long wendy was there. We know Wendy really loves singing, we know how all out she is on stage, and Wendy still carries the mic in her hand until the hospital. That year, Red Velvet walked with 4 members, I remember not far from that incident Red Velvet had a concert in Japan (La Rouge Concert Japan), I know the members must be still sad but they don't want to disappoint their fans, and Wendy's encouragement was so strong on they, entrusting everything to them and always saying you can do it, made them able to finish the concert well, even though during the break, talk with fans, Joy had tears in their eyes. Members said it was difficult to rearrange the formation with 4 personal, therefore they needed dancers to fill Wendy's formation on stage. The members told how difficult it was to take a record to fill Wendy's parts in all of their songs, they said Wendy was really crazy she was able to dance well and sing her parts very well even though her parts were very difficult. And during the hiatus, Red Velvet was really only present at the award ceremony, didn't appear anywhere, and Red Velvet launched the debut of the duo "Irene & Seulgi" in the middle of the year, there was a sad incident that made Irene go viral, and Wendy came together for the first time "project boa-milky way", then wendy came back with a solo debut and then they came back with queendom and joy solo debut, all of the atmosphere until now is still really making a lot of people emotional, and their works are always highly anticipated. They've been through a lot but that doesn't diminish how many artists, idols, junior seniors, musicians, respect them. They are loved by many. Red velvet is red velvet. Wendy grew up near Toronto, Ontario, Canada and some in Minnesota, United States (that is why she is the best English speaker in Red Velvet). I am PRETTY SURE that one of her major musical influences would have been Shania Twain, who is a Crossover Artist, between Country music and Pop music. The story behind Like Water is a pretty difficult one to hear. We all (fans, the world) could have lost Wendy. This was a comeback like no other that I have ever heard of. There was an accident and it happened to be Solar (of Mamamoo) who found Wendy and yelled for help. Wendy spent more than a year away from the cameras so she could heal up. I was among the people who were not sure that she ever would come back but the lyrics of this song are a real balm and a soothing for that doubt. This made me choke up a little bit, I had a little bit of tears when she came out with this, we were so worried about her so this was SUCH a relief! She is BACK, with a vengeance! And we LOVE her!

Real talk. I can't make it through Like Water without crying. I was fine the first time I heard it, but then I read the reason and drive for her solo album and that tore me up. So much selfless emotion put into one project in a show of gratitude for everyone that ever believed in her when she needed it most. Reading the lyrics now makes me break down. Like...fuck. 😭😭😭 Also, the English version of bad boy is threatening. I apologized to them the first time I heard it. 😂😂😂

Like Water has a Live band version which is better to react with than her live music shows because you might get banned. And you need to see When This Rain Stops live performance another emotional song from with very good lyrics. Red Velvet actually debuted as 4 members first then added Yeri on their 1st comeback. Their debut song eas Happiness. You should check it out because that song made Wendy my bias. BTW, Wendy is from Canada that is why her English is perfect.
