So much goes on during a drag racing event that most spectators aren't aware of and the story of "Pepsi Joe" Unverzagt and Mike Murray is one story that tugs at your heart strings. The passion and desire of these two racers battling parkinson's disease is inspiring to say the least. For those unfamiliar with the disease parkinson's is a brain disorder that leads to shaking, stiffness, difficulty with walking, balance, and coordination all which are paramount in driving, racing or for that matter everyday life. Enduring the 5 day 1000 mile trip covering 4 states is exhausting for even the healthiest of participants, imagine the added stress Joe and Mike must have experienced throughout the week. Competing in the Gasser B/Gas class both racers shared the prestigious '21 Hot Rod Drag Week Spirit Award which is given to the racer who exemplify the spirit of camaraderie, community, and competition. Credits to photographers Shirley French, Wes Allison, Renz Dimaandal and credit to Amanda Busick and Tom Murray for their photos used. #gassers #parkinsons #hotroddragweek
