It’s because of momentum. Unless you in a motorbike, if you hit someone going 120, even a Mini Cooper you will carry a majority of your speed and the victim you hit will experience the most Gs. You are going from 120 - maybe 70 and tumbling into more cars. They are going from 0-120. Drunk drivers survive because people get injured in crashes by tensing up, straightening your arms and bracing out of fear = broken arms. Drunk drivers don’t have the reaction time, they are exactly like the test dummies they use in IIHS crash testing to rate your cars safety. It sounds stupid the best thing to do if you know you about to crash is not brace, let the seatbelt and airbags do it for you.

I'm more interested in e-bikes and motorcycles nowadays, but the amount of clowns racing around in cars ruin those too by making the roads extremely unsafe to be on two wheels. In Germany they reacted a few years ago to such idiots, they were doing an illegal street race in Berlin on the Kurfürstendamm/Tauentziehenstraße (literally the German Champs-Élysées/Rodeo Drive) and went up to 170 kph (106 mph), then one of them crashed into a Jeep who came from a side street killing its 69 year old driver. And those got charged with murder, for the first time in Germany and the driver of the car that crashed finally got sentenced to lifetime (>15 years) in prison for murder (after multiple revisions because the supreme court's review didn't see the correct criteria that differ murder from manslaughter fulfilled, but they finally found the right one), the other driver to 13 years for attempted murder.

Seeing little kids beheaded when they fell out the bottom of the car because the floor of the car disappears in an impact like that. Or three 18 year olds that are friends that just graduated high school are just going to a sporting goods store get killed from someone running a red light at 105mph… racing. Out of all the stupid crap in the car world, cutting up is hands down the worst. It's really makes me mad when I see people online doing it.

Social media tells these guys that they’ll be able to do all this crazy stuff and the bad ending wont happen to them. But now it has. This will be the reality check they needed, it’s just sad it costed a life to teach them. You can be an adrenaline junky without endangering other people, without being stupid. Cutting up and takeovers should have never became trendy.

May she rest in peace but seriously its never too late to change. Much like drew i used to get up to activities on the road, i got pulled over and got chewed out with a warning. PLEASE, educate yourself, on what you are doing on public roads, know that theres a time and a place, never put others at risk. You're not cool, and it's not really fun.

So sad. Thx for discussing this Drew… I used to roadrace motorcycles on track, and an old fella told me this gem: “There are old racers, and there are bold racers… but there are NO old bold racers.” Live to ride another day, and let others get home safely. Your adrenaline rush is hella selfish.

I use to go to the street races every weekend in the late 1990s. Back then, it was 1987 Buick Grand Nationals as king, 5.0 Mustangs, Chevy Novas, GMC Typhoons, ect. No imports, but Toyota Supras were respected. Masta Ace to Master P could be heard playing over people's JBL speakers from the Alpine head unit as well as Alice and Chains. We had so much fun, and not once did I witness any problems over many weekends and years and not once crash. I remember one race a guy told his girlfriend to get out the passenger seat just so he could have a better chance of winning. The way he said it I laughed so hard and always remembered that. Sometimes, even the cops would hang out at the end of the street and watch from a distance. And get this, we actually raced! 2 cars at a time, and nobody did any donuts. If they didn't want us to race, the city would pull the firehydrant and wet the street, so we just went home or the strip club. Today cars are bought and not built and new cars today have too much hp. Nobody needs 800hp and thats not safe in the street with a young man driving it. Young kids today dont respect speed, the cars or anyone around them. We raced on a back street in a industrial area at 1AM. Young punks today dont race but do donuts in the middle of a major intersection blocking traffic thinking its cool not realizing they are messing up the road and blocking people from getting to work or to the hospital. I have nothing to do with street racing anymore. Haven't gone since at least 2003 when the movie F&F made the underground scene popular and ruined the scene that was just a bunch of us gearheads meeting up for a good time.

To anyone reading this that likes to get down on the street: track days are far more accessible than you think! I spend about 45-70$ per track day, I get plenty of seat time, and my car doesnt have a cage or anything. Race your car. You will learn SO much about your car and how to be a better driver, and you will realize street racing is ridiculously easy and not cool whatsoever. Grow up and take that shit off the streets. You are ready. Your car is ready. Look into local events. Go on some ride alongs. You won’t regret it.

I don’t do the stupid shit I just wanna comment and say track days They are not that cheap especially here in California where there’s only a couple race tracks pretty far depending on where you live closest to from me or about an hour and a half and it’s more than 75 more like 300, 375 Also have to get other stuff helmet car inspection maybe new tires multiple track days including special lessons in this and this and this comes out to more than just 75 bucks so I see why people are doing it and also they’re starting to get rid of automotive tracks so we’re pretty much fucked.

As a father of two daughters, And a car enthusiast. I couldn’t imagine the pain those parents are going through, and I find no excuse good enough for those men. They should never be allowed behind the wheel of a car again. Like everybody else has mentioned already, if you want to go fast there’s a time and a place. Public streets with traffic aren’t the time or place. Go to a track or a dead area with no traffic to be seen for miles. There’s ways to have fun and not risk the well being of innocent bystanders. Heartbreaking.

Another friend ended up driving the rest of the way “because of my drama” I regret nothing.

Street racing is pretty much as bad as drunk driving. You have no right to risk others lives without their consent and thats what you do when you street race. Just because you are willing to risk your life and freedom over a race doesn't mean anyone else on the road is and they are expecting people to be going to speed limit and shouldn't have to be looking out for people going so fast you have no time to react or avoid. Thank you for this video because even if one person actually gets this message and doesn't drive reckless i think its a success. RIP to everyone lost on the roads.
