I've binged all your train vs plane races and I love your style. It's really funny how the train is only slightly late for both Amsterdam and Edinburgh, when I would expect the train to be faster option for the latter. As a fan of trains I think a drawback of Eurostar is that you still need to do the passport control (even if you got away easy this time). I know you are UK based, but it would be really interesting to compare journeys in the Schengen area, eg Amsterdam-Frankfurt or Paris-Milan, as you can literally just hop on the train minutes before departure. Amsterdam-Frankfurt should take only about 4.5 hours, but DB trains are notorious for being delayed which might add to the suspense. Paris-Milan takes somewhat longer at almost 7 h, but you get views of the Alps and the executive seats on the frecciarossa are really luxurious from what I've seen on youtube, so it would be a nice comfortable ride at 300 kph. To make this one comparable maybe try travelling with luggage and take public transport to the airport. Looking forward to the next race!

Another advantage of the train over the plane, which people tend to forget to consider, is the following: If you have work to do, reading or writing on a laptop, for example, on the train you start working even before the train leaves and you can work without interruption until reaching the final destination. On the plane, you have to wait for the plane to take off and have gained height and stability to start working - hoping there is no turbulence on the way. When the plane is about to land, you must stop working. As the train goes smoothly all the way, on a two-hour train journey, you may work for two hours. On a two-hour plane trip, you may work at most for one and even then with a lower degree of concentration and performance.

But I still think that you could reasonably do 2 or 3 more like that which would obviously be good races to see. The 3 I had in mind would all leave from London but go to 3 other European countries within reach. 1) Germany (Frankfurt, Munich or Berlin - you choose the city you feel would be best for a race) 2) Italy (Milan, Rome or Naples) 3) Switzerland (Zurich). You can obviously space them out like a month apart or whatever. But I think they would be right up your street and given that you are both such great European citizens I am sure that you would thoroughly enjoy the races and visiting the different nations and their cultures. I apologise if I seemed too pushy, after all it's really just a suggestion. Sorry, guys.😳

I lived in the Netherlands for a year, my favourite airline was KLM. They’re professional, efficient, provide really good food and a top quality service in general. Only downside is they on the expensive end of airlines.

Just love these races. So much fun. 2-1 to Liam.

Not really a useful comparison because while the train guy arrived with only 40 minutes to departure, the plane guy sat around for 2 hours at the airport before even the gate was opened. Basically, if you were picking your time of departure to suit the plane, it would be way faster end to end.

I really enjoy these races! The eurotrain looks incredible and is a great alternative to flying.

It isnt if you try to book ot and find out how much it costs to a plane ticket and how uncomfortable it is in Standard class (where the prices are still double the price for a plane ticket).

Awesome video, honestly I rather take the train as I never flew in my life

Most interesting - the train is my preferred mode of travel. I’d like to see less of the race aspect and see how the two compare in natural time. I doubt I could , in fact I know could not, run from Centraal to Dam Square.

I'm a little confused, Liam said he has 2 hours until his flight meanwhile Nicky seemed to get on the train with minimum amount of time spent in the lounge. Did the train take 1-2 hours to leave the platform after arriving or something as it takes just over 3 hours to get to Amsterdam via train and the flight takes just over an hour plus the 2 hours Liam had to wait so I'm confused as to how Liam was late? Did I miss something in the video?

Nicky, we will not mind if you geek out over the sexy Eurostar Train.

would have been more interesting / relevant if you travelled normal class on Eurostar and from a regular airport (i.e. not LCY)

For teh same price, I would take the train, just to avoid the hastle in Schiphol to take the next train. and also for the meal, looked really good for a travel.

Delays could impact the train too, so buffering is important. BTW Eurostar did suffer long lines during the summer, so if you can easily afford Business Premiere, then it is worth the shorter lines and the extras, such as the lounge and included hot meal.

My husband no longer flies (he was involved with a near collision on an aeroplane about 7 years ago), so only travels to Europe by train now. He just got back from a work trip to Berlin (Eurostar to Brussels, TGV to Köln and then ICE to Berlin). We are going to the south of France in July and will take Eurostar to Lille then TGV to Marseilles. These longer journeys can take longer in general though. The problem with trains…? Strikes. Husband has been caught by British train strikes twice (didn’t effect Eurostar but did effect his travel from London to home), and in France last week (his Eurostar was cancelled and he had to stay in Brussels overnight and get another the next day).

After all it's his decision but even though he was involved in an incident, that should keep him away from flying. After all, planes are still proven to be safer than trains or cars.

The reason why the plane stood a chance, was flying fom London City Airport rather than any other airport. London City is the best connected one, very close to the centre of London, (which comes at a cost when you book). Flying from anywhere else would have been a different story.

A 4hr train ride is in the sweetest spot where it is the most preferable mode to take over air. However, given the the fact that the flight was from City Airport to Schiphol (which is extremely close and well connected to the Amsterdam Central) it negated a lot of benefits offered by rail. Great race and I'd still take rail any day of the week.

Next time y'all's are in the states, you should do a train vs plane between Miami and Orlando once Brightline starts service between the two. The flight takes approx 1 hr & 15 minutes while the train (which is a diesel powered Siemens trainset similar to Austria's Railjet) is expected to take around 3 hours.

Enjoyed watching this, but ….. you should cover the cost of each. As the times were nearly identical, the cost could be a major deciding factor. Train travel in Europe looks fantastic!

It definitely needs to be said that a standard Eurostar ticket is definitely cheaper most of the time and can be found for £39 a lot

Even though flying might be a tad quicker, I'll go for the train. It's so much more relaxed in my opinion: gates only close about 45 minutes before the train departs, so that you don't have to wait at the station for hours before your train departs, you only have to check in and go through customs once, and once you get out of the Eurostar, you're in the middle of a city!
