Proper dangerous. Still don't believe it's like it is still. I mean you can still have hurdles all the horses would clear easy and there would be a winner because its fastest horse wins. Difficult hurdles they barely clear sees them and the jockeys get injured or die. Keeping things traditional is just an excuse for lack of safety.
@eddabbs86903 жыл бұрын
I respect your point of view and I firmly believe no one wants to see the horses hurt or worse (nor the jockeys). It's difficult to quantify in many respects, but I have a real love for jump racing. I have been riding for over 30 years and have schooled pointers, hunters and done some xc. I have a real love for horses. All I will say is that 99% of people in racing, at whatever level, have a real love for horses and the horses themselves, magnificent beasts that they are, have probably the best lives any domesticated or farmed animals have. Of that I have no doubt. I guess one could argue against domestication or farming, but where would that leave us? For me the whole gambling part of the industry is incidental (though I do like to bet on course as part of a day out - the only off course bets on any sport I place is the Gold Cup or The National). The actual racing is only part of it. To see the string out on the gallops on a sunny winter morning is a sight to behold and stirs something in people who have no knowledge of horses or racing. I would hate to lose any of that. RIP The Long Mile (and those that have gone before him) absolutely. Peace ✌

Faultless performance from the winner. Jumped every fence perfectly. Rachel Blackmore has a knack of getting the horse into a rhythm leading up to a fence and landing without losing momentum. Very balanced and pivots her weight equally along the length of the horse. The only other thing I see is she keeps her elbows in, much more than the other jockeys which makes her more aerodynamic.

Well done Rachel Blackmore. She's made history. I think it is time, and I'm sure that she would agree, that we put this gender thing to one side. Ladies have been the equal of men in all other equine disciplines for many years now. If you consider who comes into equine pursuits at the bottom end you will find that it is overwhelmingly female, it is therefore actually surprising that (A) this hasn't happened earlier and (B) men are more than competitive across the equine disciplines, despite being greatly outnumbered at entry level. I guess my answer would be that it takes a lot of bravery and a requirement to be very tough to keep getting back on after frequent "unintentional dismounts". I speak as a rider of over 30 years! Rachel, Bryony et al have these requirements in spades. More power to them I say.
@CharlotteWeb1003 жыл бұрын
I've often wondered why we don't have more female jockeys even on the flat it seems unusual considering that generally women would be more inclined or interested early on and be physically smaller, lighter and whatnot. If I didn't reach 5'11 by my early teens I'd have loved to race but sadly I was already way too tall by 13yrs. In other sports such as eventing women seldom win but when they do it's purely on merit. The reason they don't often is because they're such bloody big strong horses and hard to keep in line and tight over XC fences. Jump jockeys like this are another level altogether and Rachael deserves every bit of credit for her superb ride.
@frankspencer69353 жыл бұрын
Bryony Frost would of won on that horse, it was a steering job barring a fall. If you put the females alongside a McCoy in a driving finish they wouldn't fare so well. The bookmakers love all this hype, no jockey shows a profit long-term. When I back Hollie Doyle her other half wins, same happened in the Gold Cup, a team orders barging match.
@eddabbs86903 жыл бұрын
@@frankspencer6935 I agree with much of what you say, though I would stop short of calling the longest and toughest horse race on the planet, over 4m 2f and 30 fences, with 40 runners all competing for the one prize, a steering exercise. Rachel Blackmore got that class of horse because she is in very good form. I am as much against the hype that, I have no doubt, these ladies are too. But that's the media for you. I grant that on equal ability horses on a hard and physical run in, a male jockey may win out due to those circumstances. But Rachel in this race and at Cheltenham, and Bryony in the King George, keep proving the legitimate doubters and the outright cynical wrong.
@eddabbs86903 жыл бұрын
@@CharlotteWeb100 Too bad you got to tall to race. I'm no fan of the hype that surrounds this particular gender issue (nor any of the other gender issues in general life!) I would guess that most of the detractors and cynics in this comment section and many others, that comment negatively on female jockeys, have never been near a horse in their lives. I have schooled pointers, hunters and competed in xc at an average level (usually employing the 'point your horse at gallop toward the fence and hope for the best' method - and that is only partly a joke 🤣) so I have some idea of what it takes. I would wager that Rachel Blackmore, Bryony Frost et al have more metaphorical 'balls' then all of their detractors put together. 😊

Yes she's an amazing jockey. But that's what she chooses to do as a life choice. I think about the horses. They have no choice. They either win loose or die. I don't understand the green screens. If you participate in racing for a day out, surely you must see what actually goes on? When I hear "it's gone amiss, or broken down " why don't they show what the general public are betting on and seeing it from beginning to end.

The race was fixed for a woman to win 😞

Nah she had the best ride simple as that the way the horse crept into it at the end and won it on the home straight wasn’t getting caught

This was on April 10th? I thought it was last weekend. It is now Sun May 2nd. I love this race. I like it better when it is rainy and fogging. Cheers from Boston, USA.

She's not Velvet Brown, but I'm ecstatic anyways! What a race! Congrats to Rachael Blackmore!!
