It was terrible in those days. I’m mixed race and I as a teenager at exactly around that time (1978 when I was 15) my late Dad (who was Nigerian) and I used to go to Brick Lane market every Sunday. People have either forgotten, have never known or choose to ignore how openly racist Britain was. At the corner of Brick Lane the NF and Skinheads used to gather to intimidate and look for violence. I used to be scared shitless. And you can see now how that Copper’s attitude culminated in the riots of ‘81.

Funny how the younger generation view their elders as "backward" etc when you can clearly see they were such articulate, bright men. Allah humma barek. These were the guys who saw the Bangladesh liberation war in their lifetime and fought for their own and our rights in the UK. Subhan'Allah the older generation struggled so much and made life so much easier for us younger lot. They were the ones who built the mosques, made halal meat shops and held on to their identity despite being in a foreign land. How many of us have acheived even a fragment of what they have? We were doing a fair bit of stuff about the Nazis and the Holocaust at the time,and all that wasn't that far back in the past then so there was this zeal that it should never be allowed to happen again. I am British who came to London from Europe in 2003. Recently I was having a viewing with an estate agent in Dagenham to buy my house. On the bus the agent rang to tell me about change of meeting location. I was talking on the phone with him when a white working class Englishman attacked me with the rant: Go away! I’m not listening to your pigeon English! Go away! Go back home! He was getting more and more incensed and aggressive. While I was still on the phone trying to arrange the important viewing and I got off the bus, the Englishman followed and tried to have a proper go at me. Then this Asian lad pushed him back he pushed his chest tough and hard to let him know he was facing at least two people. He told him to bugger off which the Englishman reluctantly did, cursing over his shoulder. Respect to all south Asian people! You are better than the English here in the UK.

Media spin again,i lived in limehouse in the 70's and there was only a handful of skinheads, you couldnt find a most welcoming people from the east end.Unemployment was high and the area was very poor,immigrants were making it worse for jobs.Most if not all east enders have moved out and diversity is non-existent
