cheeky Julz No wolly, it’s a racist term, that’s why you wouldn’t use that word in public nor hear it on TV or radio unless it’s some kind of underground fascist website or something. Now let’s condemn the real racism that was being experienced by the Bengalis by working class whites. We’ve come a long way but unfortunately there are a few numbskulls like yourself still out there 😞

It was terrible in those days. I’m mixed race and I as a teenager at exactly around that time (1978 when I was 15) my late Dad (who was Nigerian) and I used to go to Brick Lane market every Sunday. People have either forgotten, have never known or choose to ignore how openly racist Britain was. At the corner of Brick Lane the NF and Skinheads used to gather to intimidate and look for violence. I used to be scared shitless. And you can see now how that Copper’s attitude culminated in the riots of ‘81.

Funny how the younger generation view their elders as "backward" etc when you can clearly see they were such articulate, bright men. Allah humma barek. These were the guys who saw the Bangladesh liberation war in their lifetime and fought for their own and our rights in the UK. Subhan'Allah the older generation struggled so much and made life so much easier for us younger lot. They were the ones who built the mosques, made halal meat shops and held on to their identity despite being in a foreign land. How many of us have acheived even a fragment of what they have? Imo they deserve so much more recognition. May Allah bless them all ❤

What is apparent in these testimonies with these Bangladeshis who are Muslims is the lack of Islam in the discourse. They are not using this discrimination as a religious struggle. That would come later in the future generations who started talk of jihads and burkas. The first generation were genuinely good people.

Yes definitely Bangladeshis from the 70's made Tower Hamlets a safer place to be now. The Irish and Jews and even the blacks was oppressed by the skin heads but none fought back the way Bangladeshi people did and thanks to them Tower hamlets is what it is now. It is such a shame that there is hardly any recognition for the hardship they endured then. Sadly Bricklane is slowly losing its bengali heritage. Bengalis are moving out of the Eastend is their hundres every year and now you hardly see them in Bricklane and Shoreditch as it getting gentrified. Thank you to our forefathers.

Clem Alford they needed it because they just came to the country. You were born and probably lived in the flat for 20 years coz you are too fucking lazy to lift your fat arse and get a job. You don’t deserve to have a home anymore if you were born in England and have lived there for your whole life. Lazy shit. People like you bring the whole country down, not the immigrants

I am British who came to London from Europe in 2003. Recently I was having a viewing with an estate agent in Dagenham to buy my house. On the bus the agent rang to tell me about change of meeting location. I was talking on the phone with him when a white working class Englishman attacked me with the rant: Go away! I’m not listening to your pigeon English! Go away! Go back home! He was getting more and more incensed and aggressive. While I was still on the phone trying to arrange the important viewing and I got off the bus, the Englishman followed and tried to have a proper go at me. Then this Asian lad pushed him back he pushed his chest tough and hard to let him know he was facing at least two people. He told him to bugger off which the Englishman reluctantly did, cursing over his shoulder. Respect to all south Asian people! You are better than the English here in the UK.

Liam lll so is it more common to see an Asian convenience store or a white person. I live in the whitest place ever and I still see more Asians that whites own the shops. I see more Chinese own fish and chips than whites. So actually my friend your wrong. That’s not to say white people don’t do the jobs it’s just Asians do more of them.
