Apparently, Goth look took some and kept it alive. But, those dresses are hard to walk in, especially not used to. So most women will complain.

I agree. As a seamstress if she were to do it full time as a job it would not be as fulfilling as it is now. When you have to do something it sometimes takes some of the joy out of it. When you sew for others there is another level of stress and conflict. I have my own shop but I do not sew clothing for others (I have made dresses but they are ready to wear and not commissioned).

Luvelehh there are lots of different ways to get into historical fashion, there are Facebook groups/ youtubers and events such as reenactments and history lecture as well as classes for sewing/ costume design that can help you make friends with the same interest or time period :) you can also research in different ways focusing on type of time period/culture or use books such as Janet Arnold’s that has historical patterns you could have a go makeing yourself ^_^ I to find the makeing part is a lot more fun less stressful when it’s not for a commission x

I so appreciate how she mentions the economic strife and depression in that era and isn't trying to glorify the aristocracy. I am obsessed with the aesthetics and symbolism of monarchy and nobility, which is ironic because I'm a very leftwing democratic socialist, but we can appreciate the surface beauty of these elements without condoning the inhumane systems that produced them.

I adore the fact that she mentioned that she wouldn’t want to live in the decade and for the most part appreciates the fashions from the time. So many people are quick to think that bc you wear clothing inspired by or from a certain era, decade you want to go back. That simply isn’t the case for almost everyone who wears vintage, retro, antique clothing. She is amazing! I also noticed she wears stays, I’m assuming on a daily basis. Fuxking awesome!

She looks like Molly Hooper in period dresses. :D And I mean that in the warmest way possible. I really wish that people dressed more civilised and elegantly in general, everyday fashion at the moment is quite the testament of our uninspired, undisciplined and bored out lifestyle. Well, everyone can just do their part so I'm trying to dress the way I like (1900-1940 mostly) and set an example of the different ways fashion can look.

It seem to be a common thread (as far as i know) that people whose passion is creating and wearing clothes from another age are recreating the fashions not not the lives. If you havnt visited him before look up Pinsent Tailor. Living in Brighton UK he creates and dresses in the style and tailoring technique of The Regency. Not just for himself but does bespoke for customers. You wont regret it!

Absolutely stunning gowns! I'd love to have a whole heap of Jane Austen era dresses and wear them, but I don't have the confidence to do that! The dresses of bygone eras were so feminine and beautiful! I also wish I had the time to make my own clothes out of natural fibres, I don't like polyesters and nylons etc - would love to have 100% cotton, linen, silk and wool clothes!

Hi , thanks for your video , your work is nothing short of amazing. The detail , the time spent , wow , talk about dedication. How do you , as a costumer , feel about your period correct stays as compared to modern day corsetry ? Have you ever thought of taking a short-cut to your art by commissioning a corset , or do you feel that would negate your work as a whole ? Thanks again , I hope we can see more amazing gowns. Take care , G.
@lrnrossi
@lrnrossi 6 жыл бұрын
corsets and stays may look similar but they act very different on the body. A corset would not give the correct shape under these gowns.
@Dreamer5211

HI , Thanks for your reply and clarification , so when you incorporate the stays into your gowns , have you tried using different types of boning and designs of busk closures ? Just curious , thank so much , can`t wait for a new video , " hint " LOL , thank you for your work , and I am so please you have chosen to do it your way , Take care , G.
@lrnrossi
@lrnrossi 6 жыл бұрын
You must have an interest in corsetry :) My stays are boned with cane which is period correct given that we obviously cannot use baleen. In a future pair I will use german synthetic whalebone . Metal bones (spirals and flats) are not seen for another 100 years. Busk in this time period refers to an optional wooden or bone piece that runs down the front of the stays. Busk 100 years later refers to the pronged closure that we still see on modern corsets. I hope this helps clarify.

Yes I do indeed , yes it does , thank you . You have much knowledge of aged fashion NY School of Fashion ? Or a very dedicated hobby , either way , I would not argue , but I will thank you . I never felt right in the 20th century and feel even worst in the 21st !! You are a shining light into what used to be a far better world , if only people could come to understand the greatness of our forefathers , thanks again for your work. I corset can provide many things , support / stability / a sense of self worth even . Just remember the gentlemen were the first to wear corsets and tights !! , It has been a royal pleasure , take care , Gary

@@lrnrossi I don't have instagram. Don't do facebook. Or twitter. But I DO dress the same way. I'm in Boise, Idaho. But I'm retired and wear these clothes all day, every day. I live in a 1910 craftsman home. So I sorta match the house. :) I think I'm more Victorian, though. So historically, my clothes compared to this "modern" house, are quite out-dated. :) But even with the time I have, I still buy all my stuff.
