Super helpful! I've got 10 babies that I'll soon be needing to introduce to my small flock of 3 adult hens and an adult rooster.

Perfect timing. Our chicks are getting old enough to be added in with the older ladies and I was wondering all these things. We used an old crib (with the legs cut off) for our outside run for the chicks. Worked great. No I just need to try to figure out which ones are hens and roos.
@WhitepepperFarmshomestead Жыл бұрын
An old crib? That’s genius! 😂 that can be a bit difficult when they are young, that’s for sure!

Also, if you have the time to supervise and wake with the sun, after all of these steps, I like to just integrate the new chickens at night when all the adults are perched for the night. I slip the new chickens on the roost with them and allow them to rest together and wake up together. Only once I'm fairly confident there will be no major issue and only if I can supervise bright and early
@WhitepepperFarmshomestead Жыл бұрын
That’s an awesome thing to do! We definitely helped the chicks up onto the roost that first night!

My hubby built a playpen for my chicks with some spare wood and chicken wire. We sit it next to the chicken run so the big girls met the chicks before they go into the run. The playpen has a lid and everything which makes it great to use and it’s light enough to move around the yard. I also watch oak abode and you both have great advice for chicken raising. I get info from you that I don’t get from oak abode and visa versa. Thank you for the info on your channel.

One day my chickens got out of their run to go mingle with the neighbors hens. Was surprised how well they got along with how feisty they are with each other. Thinking of adding to my flock next year as the barreds like to gang up and bully anyone with different feathers lol

😂😂😂 they might act mean and scary but when you actually get them together often times they will calm down relatively quickly!

Grubterra is something I'll order later today, thanks! I saw a diy trick for raising soldier flies, but since I'm new to this, and quite busy, a bag sounds like a good start. I only have 6 bantams, but plan on adding more. I will keep these tricks in mind!

I put the check pin, in my case, I use a wire, dog, crate, inside the run, its self. Over about a three week. I will let the big chickens out of the run for a while and let them run around the yard and then I'll let the chicks run around the run to check it out. And after about two weeks I will open the door to the check pen just big enough so the chicks can get in an out but the big chickens can't get in there. After another week of that, I take away the chip panel together. Semi checks are 100% integrated by the time they're three months old.

Our 9 week old chickens don’t roost. They all snuggle up on a bale of hay at night. We just got 4 week old chicks on Friday and have them covered in pack n play at night in coup. Should I move the bale of hay out of coup?
