About : Racton monument was commissioned by Lord Halifax and designed by architect Theodosius Keene. It was built between 1766 and 1775.
The Monument is situated on a hill in Racton, West Sussex, England with views over Chichester Harbour and to the Isle of Wight. It is believed that the lower floor was used as a banqueting hall, while the upper floors provided spectacular views of the surrounding area.
The site has been abandoned for over a century and the ruin is regarded as one of the most haunted places in West Sussex. It has been home to illegal raves, ghost hunts, occultists and graffiti, and was, reputedly, a 19th-century brothel.
Local lore suggests spectral sightings of flying bricks, faces in windows and a "ghost tractor that drives up behind you, then disappears"
