I checked this out because I heard this was the first appearance of Sonic the Hedgehog in any game EVER. This was released before Sonic 1 on the Genesis. Hard to believe.

Actually sorry, I forgot this was arcade only. Sonic's first home appearance was Quik and Silva, three weeks before Sonic 1 in North America. 1991 was a busy year!

This game is incredibly though. Good fun though and I'm a sucker for that early 90's sprite scaler board. Sega has such wonderful artists around that time.

I remember back in the day... reading about the mythical 32 bit racing game in a magazine, then making a journey to SF where I heard they had a cabinet, where it cost like 2 or 3 $ a play, to play one of the most advanced racing games.

Wow! I thought the graphics were great back then. I specifically remember being wowed by the windshield wipers. Also I recognized Sonic when I played this in the arcade so apparently I played this after it launched on the Genesis. Now if I can just find that arcade super bike game that I only ever played once. The music at least at the start of the race was awesome.

not to mention that at the same time in 1990, Sega teamed up with the J-pop group Dreams Come True to have Sonic publicized during one of DCT's tours (due to the bassist, Masato Nakamura, composed the music for Sonic 1)

Here's some advice: On the rounds that say "Beware of oncoming car", always stay in the right lane. If you want to pass vehicles in this lane, pass them on the right. This way you won't risk crashing into oncoming cars in the left lane. This is especially true for round 6 since you can fall off the road.
