The Analogue Mega SG comes packaged with a Master System cartridge adapter, so in effect the Mega SG is not only a FPGA console for Mega Drive but also Master System, they also sold a variety of other adapters for older Sega consoles including one for My Card cartridges....alas Analogue have discontinued the Mega SG and its adapters (but who is to say they wont have another batch into the future) so finding them now would be difficult and probably expensive....but your Frankenstein solution is very creative

I did not know that. Do you know if it had FM Synth support? Tell you if they ever do another run of the Mega SG I would totally get one. But that makes sense if they already made a FPGA core that supported SMS and SG-1000.

@@8bitjoystick Yes, I understand that the Mega SG has its own FM audio, but also has a setting to use the FM audio in the cartridge

What!!! omg that amazing... Makes me want to run out and get a Sega Master system right now.

Okay true facts. I saw that one of my favorite local game stores had a Sega Masters system, but I didn't want to buy it because it was right before. Portland Retro Gaming Expo. I saw that they had it at the Expo and after the first day I decided I want to go buy it as soon as possible. However, it sold after the first day but before the 2nd to someone else who is already there. Then I was going to go to a different game store to get one but they were burglarized and the Master System was stolen. So I actually didn't get one until 2 months later. And on Black Friday no less. So whenever I see one in the store I always have to make a how a little harder it is to get them. But they are rad

Couple years ago I had one of my Game Gear’s McWill screen modded and another with BennVenn screen and both are fantastic and make playing Game Gear games like a new experience. I’ve had a Master System to GG adapter since the 90’s but I didn’t try using it on my Analogue Pocket so that’s new to me and I may give it a go. Makes the Analogue Pocket all that more fantastic

You know what I mean when I say that the game gear is one of the most purging I make most comfortable things to hold in your hand. I got to love that horizontal form factor. My goal for this year is to hit 3,000 subscribers and also play through Phantasy Star on cartridge on my GameGear and various systems mentioned here.

That Game Gear is awesome! It is interesting that the SMS games work on the Pocket via the adapter. I had the NES back in the day. My first Sega was the Genesis. One of your previous videos got me interested in the SMS. I put some SMS games on my Everdrive GBA mini to play on my original GBA SP AGS-101. :). When I see you use the Pocket in your videos, it makes me want to grab one when they are back in stock again. The all aluminum ones are just a little too much.

I am surprised that I have not seen other people trying this. My theory is that when analog updated pocket OS to include an FPGA support for the second game gear the existing FPGA core work had support for master system and SG1000 due to the shared architecture and they didn't disable it but they didn't tell anyone about it. It works surprisingly well. The thing is is that the analog pocket is already pretty hefty so I can imagine what the metal case for it would be like. I'm pretty happy with my white version.

The Analoge Pocket does have an available Sega Master System core with OpenFPGA. It also has Sega Genesis, SG-1000 and Gamegear cores.

Correct. However the master system cartridges work when you have the SD card removed so it's not using OpenFPGA to do this. They actually have SMS support in Pocket OS

Game Gear internal resolution is not 4/3 indeed, however the picture was meant to be stretched to 4/3 on the original screen, and Game Gear games should be stretched to 4/3 for proper experience.
@8bitjoystickАй бұрын
I might have been playing a Sega Master System game on it and the master system games are in 4:3. But now you make me want to check to make sure that I have my aspect ratio correct on my modded Game Gear. It should be 10:9
@cireza_Ай бұрын
@@8bitjoystick It will be 10/9 on your modded Game Gear (you are probably using some of the various LCD mods). And it will be stretched by doubling columns/lines. Integer scaling will revert to 10/9, of course. On the original screen, pixels are rectangle, not square. For example, Sonic Spinball has round loops in stage 2, not oval. The theoretical best screen to keep the 4/3 ratio would have to be a 720p screen with 6 times 160 and 5 times 144. I know this pretty well, I am a Game Gear and Master System developer :)
