I like it how they speed up the footage to make it seem like the Porsche and the Corvette are going super fast, but then they get passed by a minivan.

even though it wasnt really that great, even at the time, i still think this video (game?) may have altered the course of my life with the POV sights and sounds of the 911 nurturing an unhealthy lifelong car obsession. Thank you Sega and Tyco without you i could have possibly ended up getting into something far worse like jogging...or even baseball

You could make your own games for this system. Just fix a dashcam in your car, film some footage then use a video editing program to add the text and the flashing white lines for scoring.

Just the California Chase. As I recall, the Video Driver mechanic which fitted on the front of the television was shoddily built and mine broke not long after I bought it, but I heard there were other videos which were supposed to have been released.

Still have the VHS. The game system itself is long broken, though. Quite the gimmick it was back then.

Need for speed: The early days

Wow, it's amazingly crap isn't it, almost like a hazard perception theory test video with bits sped up to make it look fast! Still, it provided me with hours of entertainment when I was a kid. Fond memories.

This, at least, interesting for the views of the double-decker Embarcadero Skyway in San Francisco that was torn down after the 1989 earthquake.

I wanted and got this for Christmas 1989 to quickly discover the advertising was misleading to kids. It implied the game was somehow uniquely interactive and a player could actually somehow control the driving in the game. A kid isn't going to know any better and most parents aren't going to question why a gift is desired. In addition to that the contraption was just awkward even for that time and time consuming to set up. For some reason I didn't bother to return it for something else like an actual Nintendo game and it became yet another wasted present that I think I still have.

I remember having that expectation as well. All I did was crashing to the sides...

I remember this so well. I STILL have the VHS somewhere, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't work as doesn't the system. I think one of the supports broke. Also the point meter got stupidly busted. I was so young when I played this and I liked it a lot. I didn't think about any of the oddities then, but now... about 27 years later, now that I rewatched this, I got the awful nagging throughout the video. Namely the other cars PASSING you and the other car. Way to break the illusion. Yeah, that's what my complain is now. Back then I actually thought I was racing against the other car. Ah, the memories. Also, I had no idea there were two others. I thought this was the only one and after watching the others, this one comes out as the best one for me.

Oh my, I got this for Christmas present and I loved it. Now I realize how much deep inside I hated the unfair camera panning, I mean the plastic car could never even move that fast unless you were pixel perfect.
@Tounushi Жыл бұрын
Being pixel perfect was the name of the game back in the day.

I remember this one. I played it at a friend's house. When I got it, it wouldn't work with my TV for some reason.

The last part of the video randomly popped in my head after like a deja vu feeling and then I had a seizure. This has happened 3 different times. Wtf? I haven’t seen this in like 25 years wtf happened to me?

Thank you; I was looking for this exact video. Haha wow. No explanation as to why you are chasing that guy and then you are suddenly the winner because you let him go and drove off a cliff. Not that I expected more from a company called Gin Dick Productions

Did you have any other Video Driver "games" than California Chase? I should be getting my hands on 2 other titles in few weeks (Police Pursuit and Road Racer) so I'll upload those too.
