Fantastic demo. I really like the way in which Reza addresses the topic at hand in a very clear way but also compares with other tools in the platform or talks about other implications of the topic at hand, all of that in a very practical way.

Very good demo! It has the ability to simplify all these otherwise confusing concepts. I have one question which is: how can I test and try all these tools and features without having a business account?

Great video again. We have Data Vault 2.0 on Synapse SQL pool. on Top of Data Vault we have hybrid Data Mart. Master Data Mart. We are planning to create Enterprise reporting data mart for Power Bi. Should we create reporting Data Mart in Power Bi service or that should also be created in SQL Pool

That row-level security functionality looks interesting, but is it still possible to incorporate dynamic RLS? Seems that would require writing those filters with DAX...
@RADACAD2 жыл бұрын
That is the part that I still need to investigate a bit. The idea is to have RLS from the database. but the UserPrincipalName is the function that make DRLS possible, and writing DAX isn't there yet, I guess it would be possible soon perhaps.

@@RADACAD thanks! I'll be looking forward to a blog from you on it when it becomes more clear 🙂 Your articles on dynamic RLS were incredibly helpful for me.

@@RADACAD initially it looks like it's an oversight unless there's something fancy that can be done that isn't immediately obvious.

Can we use Datamart as a Data Warehouse? If yes Data will be stored on Azure SQL Database. Is this storage charges included in Power BI license or need to pay additional amount?
@RADACAD3 ай бұрын
Yes, you can. Datamart will be included in Power BI Premium or PPU.

Reza, can you connect excel directly to the powerbi datamart like you can connect excel to azure AS tabular model?
@RADACAD2 жыл бұрын
Hi Nasir. A datamart also creates a dataset. and you can connect to that dataset using Analyze in Excel or using the XMLA endpoint
@nasirrizvi5502 жыл бұрын
@@RADACAD thanks Reza. So if I connect using excel to dataset, I can use =cube functions to query the dataset? Is the dataset an olap model or oltp? Datasets operate just like data in Azure AS?

Nice one! Can we use the output of a visual or SQL query of a datamart in a visual of PowerBI report ? I do not see the visual / SQL queries that I have written in the datamart are visible in PowerBI desktop once I connect/import in to PBIX in PowerBI desktop. Please suggest. Thanks!

Where did the table Merged goes? Because after you change the visualization it simply disappear, and can't see any save button.

How does someone who is not the owner of the datamart make changes? Every time I try to bring in another table to a test datamart that a coworker made I get similar errors to: Unable to create an OAuth connection. Reason: "This action cannot be performed by someone other than the dataflow owner.

I believe the write to edit datamarts should be similar to Edit rights on the workspace, which is possible using Contributor, Member and Admin roles. However, similar to dataflows, the ownership of the datamart might be still work-in-progress, and I believe we would see more improvements in that experience in the future

I am in a very well paid job and the only person who knows TSQL in the organisation and have been getting worried as we are moving from CRM SQL server database to CRM dataverse and others here can use the PQ GUI. But with PBI datamart can I still use TSQL and lead my company towards that? Is datamart full TSQL functionality? I only need to work for another 5 years

Hi John. You can use T-SQL in the Datamart's database. It supports whatever Azure SQL Database supports.

Ahh, so bring in Tables into SQL DB is the Extract step, then Queries would be the Transform step. And the SQL is against your SQL DB.
