Yeah I've always struggled with e and f. Sometimes they seem better open and sometimes closed! Thus it makes perfect sense what you're saying 😊

Would you have any advice on a voice that, on higher keys, begins to shift way too much into the mask and possibly thins out?

You are talking basically about the whole technique of the high notes approach. It's done individually, working with a good vocal coach that knows what he is doing.

There may be a change in the feeling (and maybe not btw), but it has nothing to do with the original passaggio, so I won't call it this way.
