Maybe I'll make a video on how it plays games in 2021 but I would rather you make the video since you're much better at explaining the technical aspects and and your overall presentation in video making is done exceptionally. I play lots of games with the 7950 at 30 FPS along with my FX 8320 although I have to lower the settings depending on the game in order to achieve 30 FPS or more. Can't wait for the next video. Random! I Still have the 7870, even though I don't use it anymore, as you've said it's pretty capable of playing most of the titles. I had a 7870 back in the days, and to be honest, with an overclock, and if it had 4GB of VRAM it would still be a pretty decent graphics card. :) VRAM is unfortunately the biggest limiting factor. Sure the PS4 had 8GB (However, only around 4GB available for games). but since the architecture use unified DDR5 memory it is much more flexible than in the PC space where you separate VRAM and RAM. With that being said, modern games like Doom Eternal can run on 2GB as long as you have 16GB of RAM. :) And If I was forced to exchange my GTX1070 with a 7870, I would still be a happy gamer. :)

I also made a video a few weeks ago on the HD 7850 with 1GB VRAM. Kinda surprising results I have to say

Grabbed a 7970 for cheap last summer. Outside of a broken temp sensor (requiring manual fan control), it still runs decent for anything not super-cutting edge.

For everyone in the comments, regarding the actual PS4 GPU: PS4's GPU is based on a GCN2 (so the uArch in the 290X/260X) variant of a HD 7870 (which is GCN1), underclocked to under HD 7850 performance levels.
@Loundsify3 жыл бұрын
It was mainly under clocked for thermals and longevity of the PS4, my PS4 after 5+ years sounded like a jet constantly, I stripped it and applied new thermal paste and it's whisper quiet since.

Ran the exact same model for 6 years, but had a replacement 2 years in because one of the fans didnt spin at idle. It would barely keep stock clock in a 20 deg room before overheating with this cooler, and would thermally throttle most of the time. Had to replace the heatsink with aftermarket one intended for passive use and put 2 cpu fans on it. 1000mhz clock constantly at 60 deg and I had no problem running any game except wolfensein the new colosus. Had to drop to 720p and some scenes were barely possible to complete. Still had a lot of fun. Performancewise (with adequate cooling) its exactly the same as gt1030d5 and 750ti

Still using this card to this day. Honestly its a real beast. It always surprised me that it can still run some really demanding games even tho its a rev1.0 1gb variant. Sadly its coming to the end of its life cycle.

I have one paired with an AMD A8-7600 CPU & 8 GB Gskills DDR3 2133 Dual-Channel RAM on a Gigabyte board. It still runs pretty well.

Fooled myself with a 2gb hd7850 and YES they also had a barely useable 1gb version LOL. Always regretted not saving a little more for a HD7950 3gb.

Still using my 2GB HD7850 today as my everyday GPU, now coupled with a Ryzen 1600. No gaming though, just for ordinary browsing, youtube etc. Back when it was brand new, I experimented with some bitcoin mining, and it ran for several weeks during nighttime. Still have what it mined, now worth well over $1,000.

I've always though of the HD7850 as AMD's '750TI'. I know that's a special card for you, and i guess the HD7850 is for me. It was the first card i ever bought, to upgrade my Athlon II X3 and 4GB DDR3 system from the integrated motherboard graphics 😂 (i'd always been a console gamer until 2019!).
