**Radial Flow Settling Tank Stats**
Radial flow settling tank size - 32 gallons
Flow rate - 150GPH (2.5GPM)
Tank retention time - 12.8 minutes
Solids Lifting Overflow (SLO) pipe diameter - 3 inches reduced to 1.5 inches (1.77 in^2)
Stilling well diameter - 4 inches (12.56 in^2 - 7.1 times bigger than SLO pipe)
Settling tank diameter - ~20 inches (314 in^2 - 177 times bigger than SLO pipe)
Effluent weirs - 48 - 1/2 inch diameter (5.42 in^2 - 5.32 times bigger than SLO pipe)
**RFS Flow Analytics (Velocities)**
Influent SLO pipe - 326 inches / min
Stilling well - 46.0 inches / min
Settling tank - 1.84 inches / min (0.03 inches / sec)
Effluent weirs - 61.3 inches / min (1 inch / sec) over 22 inches
**Misc Items**
-At fish tank, SLO pipe passes through a 3" bulkhead fitting
-At settling tank, SLO pipe passes through a 1.5" uniseal
-At settling tank, effluent pipe passes through a 1.5" uniseal also
-Due the system hydraulics, the RFS tank had to be buried 6" in order to have an effective operating hydraulic gradient line
-Burying the RFS does help out with insulating the tank in hot (100F +) and cold (freezing and below) temperature days
**Lessons Learned**
-Had to change the effluent weirs from a longitudinally half cut pipe to 48 - 1/2 inch holes for less effluent flow velocity
-Hard to clean out the RFS since a clean out and drain were not designed into the RFS

An easy way to remove the solids from the waste tank, use a cone bottom tank, with a large butterfly valve - a quick open and close of the butterfly valve flushes out the solids.

You engineers it very well ,and you can add a drain later.

Yes I can add a drain but it wouldn't drain the tank all the way due to the tank is partially burried.

A great video I really enjoyed it you have a new subscriber. I am original from Nottingham England but I emigrated to Newfoundland Canada in 1990 - 2018 I decided to keep koi in my garden pond like I did in the UK but here the winter is brutal like -20 is very common so we have our own chalenges. Plus we can’t purchase equipment so I have to make everything ie filters etc. Cheers Mate.

Sorry, mate, for taking so long to reply to you! Been beyond busy. I'm in Central Texas so in the summer we can easily get 40C temps (105F) and in the winter for a brief couple days -10C temps (15F) or colder. I can't imagine doing aquaponics in Newfoundland! I've made everything in my 2 systems except for the pipes and pumps of course. I try and get the stuff for free at construction sites and buy as little as I need. I made 2 greenhouses for my two system also from scratch. I'll made videos on those. This winter my tank water go down to about 4C (39F). This affected the fish badly. I have koi, hybrid stripped bass, and largemouth bass. The koi did ok but the hybrid stripped bass didn't do to well and the largemouth's metabolism almost slowed down to not being alive. But over all things went well. My mosquito fish breeding tank froze again and killed most of the fish. But that tank is outdoors with no cover and only has a small 100 gallon fish tank heater. Next winter I'm making a solar water heater to see how that works out. Cheers, mate. I lived in Cardiff from 2013 to 2018. Loved it there.

You need an open T joint instead of a 90 deg bend at the top of the SLO. This design might create a siphon which will drain out your fish tank.

I took care of the SLO siphon problem by drilling a 1/2" hole in 90 bend. I clean it out if needed so there will never be a siphon with the SLO.

@@eskunkel that would work. Good one

If you have a shop vac, you could suck the solids out and save yourself some scooping. Great work

i use a milwaukee stick pump hook up to a 100ft garden hose to water my garden while sucking up the waste

You could put a seine net weight it and place inside your solid waste filter and just simply pull it up trapping the heavy solids when you want to clean it out !
