After urgent care visit, 2 sets of X-rays, an orthopedic dr visit and a CT scan, the only information I’ve gotten is “it may not need surgery”. Probably not a terrible break but it’s been a month and while mobility has improved, many gripping and arm extension movements are out of the question. This video is the best info I’ve found. Thanks.

how did it recover?

After a year of working with resistance bands and mace, I’m able to extend it almost straight. Strength is about 90%. MRI showed it was broken worse than the orthopedic surgeon initially thought. Surgery may have helped but at 66, losing range of motion was a concern. Thanks for asking!

This happened to me yesterday and the pain was bad and i had no mobility in my arm the reason was a hematoma in my elbow joint. It was eventually drained and now i have alot more mobility than before but still some stiffness

It’s been about a year since my injury and I can not straighten my arm, due to work I have not been able to stretch as much, and at home very minimal, is there any treatments or excursuses I can use to help straighten my arm? Thanks.
@fractureinfo3 жыл бұрын
after these injuries the elbow can loose some movement. this may be permanant. you can see a physio for stretching exercises and occasionally they can create night splints that help to stretch it for you also. if the movement is severly limited there are operations that can be considered to improve the movement. this is best guided by your doctor.

Thanks for your video and advice, I sustained this injury this morning after falling off my bike. My fracture is ‘non-displaced’ so my doctor has put it in a temporary cast for 5 days. He said after 5 days, it is vital to start serious mobility to ensure that I regain full range of movement. He said it would be painful but necessary. He said there those who wait for weeks until pain goes away to start mobility who end up with months and months of mobility exercises and subsequent pain, and those who start mobility after 5 days who regain mobility within a few weeks. What is your opinion on this?
@fractureinfo2 жыл бұрын
Be guided by your treating clinician. In the first few days it can be painful to move the elbow so resting in a cast is appropriate for some patients. I agree that prolonged immobilisation in a cast will result in needing to do a lot or stretching exercises to get the movement back.

It sounds like you have a good doctor. I also broke the radial had three months ago and started physical therapy right away (after three days), but unfortunately, it was not intense enough. As of today, I can't reach my full range of motion. I highly recommend you fight the pain and work very hard, every day, if you want to achieve the full range of movement asap. Good luck!

Sling not needed at all if the break is stable. Need to get movement as soon as possible.

This can be true, but it is guided by the pain levels experienced by the patient.

thank you but treatment non operative by posterior splint or if there is displaced by screws if there fragment ?
@fractureinfo6 жыл бұрын
Generally the treatment is in a splint and then gentle progressive movement as pain allows for simple fractures (breaks). More complex fractures, such as those going into the joint with displaced bits of bone. Or those causing major problems with rotational movements of the forearm (this can be difficult to asses due to pain and on occasions may need an injection into the elbow) may require surgery. The surgery can be simply manipulating the break back into position, opening it up and fixing with screws (and sometimes a plate), or in very severe cases a radial head replacement may be required. Each case is different and this video is designed to offer general advice. Please be guided by your health care professional.

@@ianmeadows5565 Had a radius head fracture 10 days ago, 4 days ago surgery Mason 3 with 4 screws 2cm in the head . The Chirurg and doc say 14 days cast than I can start ex-flex movements in physio and another 14 days than I can start suprination and Pronation. I hope that isn't too late.

@@technowikinger523 honestly and truthfully , i still think that i need surgery , i hope you recovery goes well , i was told that i should of started physio sooner so if you can get that in place fast then you should be in good hands , for the record i only sustained a radial head fracture in my right arm so nothing compared to what you have had thats for sure.
