My only older brother died four months ago. We were only 18 months apart. This song speaks to me on so many levels. We really were tight knit boys. We did everything together. When we grew up we got an apartment together, and every few months we would have a huge blow up, and he would leave, and no joke, but about every three months he'd come back and I would of course let him back. As kids I was always the "good kid." No drugs, good grades, but my brother was kinda the "fuck up," but to me he was a hero. He was gold. I don't think this song is about the actual loss of a brother, but more of the distance that came between them, but I guess that's what great about art. It's open to interpretation. This song means so much to me.

You are an amazing person and I know how you feel. My little sister was a month old when she died. I hardly even got to meet her. I'm sorry for what happened to your brother. And you have an amazing voice.

My condolences. I hope your brother is at peace, wherever he is. Losing someone close like that is always life changing, but the bond between true bros is often contradictory, enigmatic, but also stems from deep love and especially strong, because not only are you family, but also contemporaries, unlike with your parents, and able to relate to each other. We all have someone like that, that no matter what they did, even if you don't agree with it, you always try to understand because for some reason, they'll always be gold to you. Fair winds to you my friend.

I lost my older brother two weeks ago..almost identical story, everyone knew I was the straight and narrow type while he was always getting in trouble..He was the only sibling I have that I was actually really good friends with..so he was definitely always gold to me..I already loved this song before hee died, but now the song has so much more meaning..I feel your exact pain brother, my condolences

indie folk is music that people listen to not because its massively popular but because its real it has emotions and genuine musical talent so yes he may not be getting a billions views but I guarantee the people who do listen and love his music appreciate much more then just a "song" people would listen to say on radio one or any frequent chart topper.

100% still agree with this statement 9 years later. Indie folk is the only genre that makes me feel life itself. Will always be my favorite

He writes music. All of these "famous" people usually don't write there songs ex. Justin Bieber, Niki Manaj, Rihanna.. and all of that crap.. this guy is brilliant and he isn't doing this for fame..he just enjoys writing and what I love about his music is that is so beautiful and unique. You don't know what you're talking about.. I mean yea everyone has different music taste but his voice is amazing and beautiful. He is becoming more known and that's what he deserves.

...And pumps amazing energy in simple words, hammers simple chords to raw perfection, and spreads an amazing presence with only a guitar - and a straw hat. His live performance of Glory in New LA, 2011, is enough to illustrate a quote from St Exupéry: Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

if you saw that look when he finished , he was off to the place in his head that inspired this song , and it took a second for him to come back..Love it..this song is purely from the heart , and thats why its as fantastic as it is

This is just him, doing one take, with no audio modifications. Famous singers don't actually tend to be chosen for their singing abilities, but for their dance moves and stage presence. HIs voice might not be stellar, but because he writes his own lyrics, it has far more depth than 90 percent of the artists out there.

It’s been a whole year since my best friend’s suicide and this song moves me to tears every time I hear it... it’s beautiful and painful all at once....I haven’t been ok at all since that phone call but this piece of artwork is very cathartic.

It's disheartening that the top two comments on this video involve the word "idiot." It's quite sad when music becomes something not to be shared, but to be utilized as fuel for one's own self-glorification. The mentality of "I know good music, you're tastes are below me" has become far too widespread. May we quiet ourselves and enjoy the serenity of this song.
@vision11212 жыл бұрын
ROFL! You explained exactly how he wants his music to be. He likes his music RAW. His live takes are unedited. He knows his voice isn't American Idol winning quality. It adds to his style and fits absolutely perfectly. And if you knew anything about him, money and fame is the least of his desires. Making music in a shed with his friends is what he desires. He's probably the LEAST fame/money oriented musician out there. He plays and records music for us because he loves to do it.

i will wager that temptstress666 has a LOT more issues than with this video. Don't take that bullshit. Seriously. Your song is good, i really enjoyed it. just because you weren't belting out the lyrics doesn't mean it should be criticized. The world needs a lot more of you. And i thought your guitar playing was a helluva lot more intricate than most of the crap you see these days.
