It is Halloween, and in his attempts to celebrate the occasion, Toad is, as usual, over-ambitious, particularly in his construction of a Halloween mask.
In the Wild Wood, a party of trick-or-treating Wild Wooders is frightened out of their wits by a hideous monster, with shining eyes, and making a horrible hissing sound. They persuade the reluctant Toad to accompany them, and Toad becomes even more scared than they were. The next day, Badger calls at Toad Hall to bring the news that the Railway Company has a steam-traction engine in the Wild Wood.
