Remember this well and with similar memories. By October 1977 the BBC had already announced that Radios 1 & 2 were to get separate afternoon programmes. At end of November 1977 David Hamilton's Radio 1 show (also on Radio 2) was to become a Radio 2 show. I never thought that DH made a particularly happy or smooth transition to R2. In the early days, many of the Radio One shows also had themes. It is probably just my age, but I think that a lot of Radio has lost its magic.

Pete Murray, JY, Wogan first time round, lovely Ray Moore with his delays at Gatport Airwick and tales of "Management". Lovely times.

The modern Radio 2 is dreadful, the presenters seem to love the sound of their own voices, there is no warmth from then and they have nothing that will be memorable in 40 years time. Gatport Airwick,. Wogan's Winner, What's the recipe today, Jim, John Dunn's eclectic taste in music, this is what I remember Radio 2 for., not Zoe Ball fawning over some reality show like it's high art.

Use to love these themes as the bring back happy days of listening to Radio 2 all day back in the 70s - all we need now is Waggoner Walk and Ou and the Night and the Music theme but dear old Ray Moore - Minor Bird or Here There and Everywhere 👍👍

I can remember Pete Murray later on for one thing in his career, telling viewers watching Breakfast Time that voting Labour was a vote for communism.
