Thank for the excellent tutorial. Coming from the Ham world, this makes sense. Best 73’s. 😀🥳

I’m guessing that these repeaters are not networked together to go state to state like ham radio? 😀

Thank you! I’ve just started exploring the world of radio communication and GMRS, and this has been the easiest and most straightforward guide to follow. Hands down, the best tutorial I’ve come across so far!

Very interesting thank you for all the information😅. And it is kind of ironic towards the end of the video here in a tornado siren

LOL that was actually the siren at the local fire department 😂

Maybe the terminology should be changed from 'privacy tones' to 'mute tones' since it's the radio equivalent of muting someone on social media - the account you mute can still see your posts but you no longer see theirs.

That's a GREAT analogy!

Nice video! Question: Does anyone know how to program split tones into the Yaesu FT-65? Specifically, DCS for TX, and CTCSS for RX. I am stuck. It seems to do only CTCSS to CTCSS, or DCS to DCS. But not DCS TX to CTCSS RX, or vice versa. Strictly speaking, I don't need it because I have a good number of proper GMRS radios. But it just drives me nuts that I can't figure it out. Can it do it at all?
@EvanK2EJT2 ай бұрын
I have one. I'll take a look and see if I can figure it out.
@EvanK2EJT2 ай бұрын
Okay, so I just tried it. Just set either the TX or RX for each kind of tone, and make sure to set the radio to Tone Squelch, repeater on, and offset to the correct frequency and direction

If my wife has one and I have one can we talk with the Repeater ?
@EvanK2EJTАй бұрын
Absolutely, assuming you have a repeater in range.

I was gifted a pair of retevis rb17p. have you ever used them I am a complete newbie to gmrs radios, got my license and that is about it.
@EvanK2EJT2 ай бұрын
@@leokelly359 I've never used that particular radio, but Retevis makes decent stuff. They should be pretty similar to program to what you saw in the video.

GMRS repeaters don't exist in Canada because that would obviously cut into the cellphone service. The big player in Canada is Bell Media, the CRTC gets its marching orders from them. They control Cable, Satellite, Internet TV, the CTV Network and cellphone services. Also, all FRS and GMRS radios are limited to 2 Watts.

Thanks for the Video! Per § 95.1751 GMRS station identification. (c) Any GMRS repeater station is not required to transmit station identification if: (1) It retransmits only communications from GMRS stations operating under authority of the individual license under which it operates; and, (2) The GMRS stations whose communications are retransmitted are properly identified in accordance with this section. so unless only the Licensee and family use the repeater it should have to ID.
