For starters, the interviewer needs to understand the definition of “combative.” The word was not the best to use in the introduction. I think the singer was right! He should’ve called them out for being unprofessional at an audition. It wasn’t time for them to giggle. That had no place at an audition. in order for it to be made clear, they auditors/interviewers SHOULD NOT laugh under these circumstances. Laughter is inappropriate, irresponsible and unprofessional. Because of their behavior, they should NEVER be considered to advise singers or audition them. Kim Burrell is STUPID, Donnie is on that same train! I don’t think it is because he’s gay. I do think it is because he is playing a game with Christianity AND being gay and, somehow, he seems to be carrying himself as if he still doesn’t need to work out his own soul’s salvation. Burrell was lying. I don’t care if she had made her mind up while she was singing. She should stay silent until she was given a space to give the singer a critique. When she said that his attention should’ve been focused on the one who was talking to him, the question was HOW? HOW could he listen to what Kiera was saying when you have Kim giving a belly laugh like that. It was sophomoric!

And giving her the benefit of the doubt, even if they were laughing about something else they were still being very rude and unprofessional. That wasn't the time or the place for there personal conversation and giggles. That was time for judging the amateur singers that BET pay you to judge. She is a living legend. After watching that clip, I absolutely believe him. When you have someone auditioning again, your job as a judge is to watch, listen, and make your views on what you liked about the person’s audition. Don’t start laughing at the contestant who came back for a second chance and I didn’t like how she did that to him. He has an amazing voice and should have made it through. God bless him and best of luck to him in the near future.

It was disappointing especially because potential gospel artists have very little avenues to pursue their craft. They don't make the money that other genres make and it is harder to make it. Then the judges are supposed to people of Christ. It would seem that would be more encouraging and respectable. I stop watching after that.

Even giving them the benefit of the doubt that they were laughing at something unrelated, they are supposed to be judging his performances and critiquing it. That laughter and side talking is not rude and unprofessional, but it is distracting for the judge speaking and the contestant. And if Kim was an adult, she would have apologized for her conduct instead of trying to scold him about where his attention should've been when she was creating a distraction! And she said at a conference that she wasn't paying attention?! So she judged him from the gate. He was completely justified in his reaction.

Hopefully the use of the word "combative" did not cause you to miss the big picture in his story. It was used to say he was argumentative as he took a stand against offensive feedback from the judge. The auditioner had sacrificed greatly to be there and voiced his grievance on the spot in direct response to the harsh criticism. This is figuratively a way of "fighting" back.
