I'd say the beginning was more James in his perfectly peaceful yet intense singing state...later his voice muscles weakened a bit for various reasons (the song's slower than usual, can't be belting it throughout even though on X Factor he was singing on a high range for longer periods; other reasons may be some inner energy misalignment, distracting thoughts, causing prior strain on the voice......if this makes sense). Still, this guy can't fault my perception - absolutely stunning, an inspiration beyond his musical expression - he comes across as a deep spiritually maturing consciousness, I can see it through being not as musically talented, but spiritually aware.

I think they're mainly adjusting to rhythm; James changes the melody within key, in harmony with the instruments playing as is....he's an improvisation artist - a master like I've never seen, natural, sings deep from his soul, yet he must've had countless hours of focus, dedication, practice......I'm not fooled, this didn't come just like this; quite likely a lot of pain was transmuted to reach this level (you could say James on some egoic level wanted to express himself so outwardly emotionally, to connect with his emotion during performances; who knows, maybe throughout life too; we can only scratch what we're perceiving with words ; anyway, this play of consciousness, this character being played out, this expression served many, it inspired - but deep down we're deeper than that, and all of us are that same one 'thing' - the only that exists - everything - all that is). It's all God's work. Ego likes repetition, for fear any variation will be disliked. If you're free, you do whatever inspires you in the moment and it flows beautifully like that. With James, I feel he's totally in the now, mixing everything effortlessly, trusting his voice, his expression, trusting nature.... It feels he's letting it come out just by itself. That sort of state of Being is enlightenment.
