No matter how big a good band get, if they cover a song they loved in their formative years they get a spark in their eyes and they're 16 year olds again, a great thing to see.

This comment should have a thousand likes. So true...... and what a wonderful gift for us to witness this, especially with a band as big and quite private like Radiohead. Thoms smile says it all in the beginning when he starts playing that riff. I think it Should be a mandatory thing for all bands to do at least once a year..... Something to remind them why they do this and how they all came together with this one thing in common to create their very own magic.

Oh, I'll break them down, no mercy shown, Heaven knows, it's got to be this time, Watching her, these things she said, The times she cried, Too frail to wake this time. Alot of times when a band is covering another group, but they have more 'players' on one or more of the instruments than the original did (a band with 2 guitarists covering a song by a guitar-bass-drum trio band, for example, or the original band having a prominent synth player while the band covering doesn't have one at all, etc) just that simple aspect alone can often throw off the vibe of a cover, to where it feels too cluttered, or conversely too empty where it's missing a parts. But while it looks like Colin sat this one out (that's Ed on bass, right?) the power of both Thom and Jonny's guitars kicking in on the "I'll break them down / No mercy shown" chorus really adds a vibe that's totally different than the original, but works in it's own unique way...much more dynamics. A bold choice

Friend was playing this on his speaker. Did a double take: I said, "This is a Joy Division song, but it sounds JUST like the Radiohead singer." He replied, "You're right on both accounts." (!) -J.YO'

just a masterpiece from Ian and Joy Division that it seems all covers of this are so great. This, new order, galaxy 500, Peter Hook n the light. Moby..love em all due in large part to the tune n lyrics itself

This might be the best cover they've done? (Though "Nobody Does It Better" will always have a special place in my heart)

You know this is a great song when someone like Radiohead puts this much into it. Fuck knows what Joy Division would have become if Ian hadn't checked out. I saw Joy Division a few times between 79 and 80 and remember this song as a new one and thought wow, they've done it again. I was fortunate to meet them all, even their manager and roadies were great fellas. I used to have one of Bernards first guitars a Gibson SG copy, I think it fell to bits.

Eh I don't think it's very good and I love Radiohead. Listen to Galaxy 500s take on the song. Now that's a great cover.

I do think its quite a brilliant cover. You can feel the admiration for Ian and New Order in it.

Finally discovered this. Grew up with Radiohead. Missed Joy Division and New Order live. Got to see Radiohead live. But this is perhaps one of the best songs ever written. Wish there was a complete and good quality recording with Ian singing it. Wish I could have seen Joy Division live. But this cover is amazing. They enjoyed doing this so much. And it sounds so great. Wow.
