This song is pretty much the most direct when it comes to Ok Computer's themes of loneliness and isolation from the rest of the world and how in away, everyone is suffering from the same feeling

Jonny Greenwood stated : “Andy Warhol once said that he could enjoy his own boredom. ‘Let Down’ [1997] is about that. It’s the transit-zone feeling. You’re in a space, you are collecting all these impressions, but it all seems so vacant. You don’t have control over the earth anymore. You feel very distant from all these thousands of people that are also walking there.” Since this is a difficult song to reproduce live, Radiohead has seldom performed it on stage. Interestingly, the blip noise at the end of the track was created with a ZX Spectrum, an old computer the band members used in their youth❗️ 💙🎼💚

The layering on this song is incredible. The way it builds to a climax draws me in every time I listen to it. And if you haven't heard the album yet (as if there's anyone left that hasn't heard it) then it is just perfectly placed to lead you from the previous track onto the next. Pure musical genious

It's been years, and I can go months without hearing this but every time I do I weep. There's something so evocative about it from the moment it starts. The lyrics, the dream-like acoustics, the whole vibe of the song sustains me, reminds me of terrible days I felt I couldn't survive but did. It's literally the most important song of my life, and I think I could die happy to be able to hear it live.

I know what you mean. Heard it a billion times since released, and I ALWAYS end up a blubbering mess......and I'm fifty fucken nine 🤯 I like the middle bit, slows down, and you think "Gee, shortish song, bloody good though....." Well the first Radiohead song I heard, many many years ago perhaps in 1996, was ''high and dry''and it was indeed on the radio.I remember hearing a few chords and thought that it was really an exquisite song, but then I had never listened to them again till my sister ( a great fan of them ) put a cd on and then this particular song was heard for my delight. I have listened to it many many times ( since she has been putting it on more then once ) I have been happy to hear it in happy and sad days, for me it is really a masterpiece ...out of this world.I am really grateful to radiohead for this masterpiece and to my sister for introducing it to me and never letting me down with her taste in music🌟

To me it's optimistic, it's saying stop tying your sense of self-worth to material goods, working for people who don't care about you, endlessly travelling in cars and planes that go nowhere. Once you have realised that you don't need to do it, then the song is optimistic, there is a way out of ''The Matrix'' as it were.
