12 years ago I got sent to California State Prison for drug possession . When the bus pulled up to Delano State Prison and we were waiting at the electric fences to get cleared to come inside. I remember singing in my head this song especially the part when he said, “What the hell am I doing here. I don’t belong here.” The bus driver at the moment turned up the music on the radio and this song was playing. I knew right there and then that this was going to be my last time ever in prison. That was 12 years ago and I’m proud to say that I’ve been crime free ever since and clean and sober. My name is Jon G and I’m a very grateful recovering drug addict. Thank you for letting me share.

Couldn't agree more. It's a little hard to explain, but I've always found that people with immense talent in any creative endeavor almost live on different parallel then us normal folk. This particular performance is a great example of the "overly managed", white washed, soulless scrap that permeates the music scene of today. Imagine an up and.coming singer songwriter were to give this performance today.....the facial contortions, the unkempt stringy, greasy mop on his dome, the androgynous vibe, the I don't give an F about anything behavior would never work as mass appeal and not offending anyone has led to the milquetoast garbage that is called music.

2:59 Radiohead is a superband but I wonder how much of their success can be attributed to Thom's ability to hit this one note.
@folv66313 ай бұрын
90% of it probably. The whole song is very niche at first (prior to it becoming a popular mainstay song I mean), and his voice seems 'questionable' with cracks and whines here and there. But once he hits that note, you realize it's all very carefully deliberate and that he can really belt clear/melodic notes when he needs to and that changes your entire perception of what's going on.

Honestly man, Pablo Honey is better than you probably think! Blow Out, Prove Yourself, Anyone Can Play Guitar, Creep. Etc, they’re all excellent songs (especially Blow Out!! I’d argue that’s one of their best). It’s just, what came after changed the their game forever. They mixed it up, redefined and redesigned themselves with each album, time and time again bringing a whole new sound to the table. I feel like, with that in mind, it was always gona be impossible for Pablo Honey to ever be anything more than just a debut, solid, British alt-rock album, since OK Computer was like.. The Dark Side of the Moon, of the 90’s!! I love how throughout the years, their live performances just got better, bigger, intenser, focused!! Everything about them as a band became more significant with each album release.. Because of that, the fucking agony, the stress, the touring, the work, the relationships.. It ruined them. They needed their well deserved.. break?? One can only hope. But at the same time, I kinda like what we have now. A near perfect run of albums adored world wide.. Maybe it’s time they did leave it at that? Plus, Yorke and Greenwood have that Smile thing going for em with Skinner, which is nice. I’m happy they still have another outlet to explore and create new stuff without the massive weight of the ‘RADIOHEAD’ name looming over their heads.

This is pure genius. I feel so thankful Thom is still making great music and pushing boundaries. And I have to also add the song itself is so heart wrenching because it captures what some dismissively call "youthful alienation" but I think it goes much much deeper. "Civilization" and American culture in particular circumscribes what is possible through a very twisted, capitalistic, and shallow lens. Although I made it through my youth relatively unscathed I remember the dread and apprehension I often felt and feeling like a "wierdo" or a creep is a perfectly natural response to a cultural system that at its root is very oppressive and conformist. Kids feel this deeply and I think it's why Creep has become such an anthem for the "disaffected youth"

Hi I Recommend an indie song that's called 'Life Changes' By Robert Nix

Aw, Conan is so nervous and young. And what guts to have them as his first musical guests. Also, the anger in Johnny's guitar playing literally made my day as well as Thoms hair. I was just thinking today how crazy it is how Thom makes me hopeful and less cynical of being 33 with nothing to show for my life, because he gets better with age, so maybe it's not too late for me.

I don't think anybody would have guessed that they would release OK Computer not long after and completely blow people's minds. I heard this song and thought okay, they got something but I think they are going to be a 1 hit wonder. Glad I was so wrong. Their whole catalog is one of my favorites of any band.

Love the 80s, but the 90s (most of it) was pretty good too ;-) Thanks for posting this kick ass performance!!

It's such a catchy song, I love the melody. And the suject at hand, everyone has felt that at least once, it pulls you in.Beautiful song.

I read the band "hated" this song, and Ok Computer (as a body of work) is far beyond it, but WHAT a song. It meant so much to so many people at so many points in their life. Unless you are clueless and self-absorbed, we all (at some point) feel like an outsider, alone, a "creep". Sorry boys but once you create the art, it doesn't' belong to you anymore, it's belongs to all of us.

It's probably as painful to play as it is to watch. As a musician, when you put everything out there it can be kind of embarrassing to look at over and over. Guessing that's the deal here. An amazing work of raw emotion and sadness.
@tomscott443813 күн бұрын
@@mikelevitt7365 Agreed. Thom looks spent, as do most of the band. Not so much sadness, more regret.

When I heard his voice, it was so soothing (sure, he was probably nervous, so it's understandable why it was so soft and quiet), so props to Radiohead for killing it here!

Glad they went to the studio and broke through. Found who they really are and what they wanted to be. It was the next album that made them without question…the greatest band in the history of the planet. They stopped doing what they thought fans wanted and did what they wanted and it was fucking epic!!

I was one week into Marine Corps bootcamp when this aired... No radio, no TV, no contact with the outside world other than letters. It wasn't the greatest live performance of this song but I'm glad I finally heard it 31 years later.
