Basically some very bad wiring mistakes would have had to be made in order for there to be any danger whatsoever from touching any type of microphone while wet. And the original version of this story has the production assistant slapping "the sparking mic out of his hand" which is just cartoonishly impossible on a number of levels. so the electrocution aspect of this story is highly suspect. I do believe his boots filled with water though
@CantTellYou2 жыл бұрын
😂 thank you, I have the same level of skepticism as when I hear *stories* about people getting “electrocuted” by playing their guitar indoors with a lightning storm happening outside. Like in what universe is that super high voltage traveling through your 1/4” low-voltage guitar cable?
@maxpower922 жыл бұрын
You're either grounded or you aren't. Being in a pool of water won't ground you. Perhaps you should try.
@nodnoggins2 жыл бұрын
@@maxpower92 you could jump in a pool holding a “live” dynamic microphone and you’d be perfectly fine. They don’t use power to operate. Even condensers use only 48dcv. It would be like holding a AA battery. A situation where there would be potential for danger would be if the mixing console it was plugged into wasn’t grounded and then that would have to be plugged into an electrical system with wrong or degraded wiring, which could send stray voltage back to the microphone. But you would know the first time your wet lips touched the grill, which his do many times through the performance. So you don’t know what you’re talking about and the electrocution aspect of this story is bs.
@ashscott60682 жыл бұрын
Who, exactly are you diagreeing with? Or do you always suggest that people you agree with should jump into a pool? And that statement is also completely false. You are always grounded, and you are never grounded, depending on where you draw the line. There is always a path to ground through you, but the resistance of that path can never be zero. The OP is correct. The voltage across a dynamic mic, is TINY. And phantom power to a condenser mic is only 36 volts, witch simply can't push enough current through a human, to even be felt unless he grabbed it with his tongue, and the phantom power circuit can't provide enough current, to even do any damage there

The "Israeli dj" that played Radiohead on repeat is Yoav Kutner who is the mother and father of israeli rock culture. There's nowhere near enough voltage going through a live mic to cause anyone any harm. (Even with phantom power on, which it shouldn't be for a mic like that.) Didn’t know Radiohead were at times bordering on being a bit Punky in the early 90’s. Radiohead in their early days were unrecognisable from what they would become just a short few years later. Also when I think of a band that would be good for a party, the band I would least think of is Radiohead, heck Alice In Chains would come into my mind well before Radiohead, and AIC are very bleak. Yeah Radiohead’s Street Spirit will get people moving and bouncing.

4:19 - grabbing a "live" microphone with wet hands won't present a shock risk unless the desk/PA system it's connected to has a very, very serious ground fault. In this case, grabbing a microphone with dry hands will also likely cause a serious shock. Dynamic mics are also passive, so it's not like the PA system would even be passing a tiny amount of power to the mic.

I think I stuck with the forum until around Kid A's release. I'll admit, after amnesiac's release a year later, I had lost a lot of passion for the band. This really lacks context for 1993. Kennedy was the VJ for Alternative Nation, and in the years following Nirvana & Jane’s Addiction this isn’t particularly shocking, or out of place. I’d also mention that MTV used that shot of Yorke jumping in the pool for its own bumpers and brand identity all summer. It’s noteworthy in that Radiohead goes on to be something much more, and what really stands out to me is the cringe of Yorke screaming at the camera. It’s also not really “spontaneous” or unplanned considering the editing and different camera effects. I don’t remember if Beach House was broadcast “live” but there’s a lot of post production on the video

I've often heard people comment this but from my experience swimming in clothes and shoes isn't dangerous. When I was a kid I was a military cadet and a couple of times a year we used to have to do swim training to get a certificate. The first bits where normal laps in different strokes but for the life saving stuff we have to dive for bricks in a flight suit to simulate crashing in a body of water, tread water with a flight suit and army boots for ten mins and inflate a life raft and get everyone inside from the water. All in flight suit and boots. We start in trunks and then put the other bits on as the test proceeded. I did this from 13years til 18years twice a year and was hardly a fit kid. I wonder where ths you drown in boots myth come from?
