"This genre is Radiohead" Simply and directly. Not pop, not rock, just Radiohead. Just like Massive Attack, no label could be put in. If you didn't get into a forest with Thom, you're listen it wrongly. Tks, Geebz

@ricardoburil5229
@ricardoburil5229 10 ай бұрын
@@aotea6983 so do I, for a while. Used to consider them as one of the Father of triphop, with Portishead, djShadow, Bonobo and didn't understand why Robert Del Naja hated the label triphop so much. In his words, Massive Attack is music. I just understood it after seeing them on stage. Angel, live, was almost a doom metal song during the guitar parts (what is unusual in triphop's projects). They flow through many different styles, but always sounding like Massive Attack - just as Radiohead (that we could say that is a rock band, even don't being). Rock is too little to Radiohead, so Triphop is little to Massive.

Hehe I love how you were about to say Pop Rock and then went no no don't shoot me wait! And like you say, it is very hard to put Radiohead under one type of music. Excluding the first two albums which had more of an alt Rock tone, they really are their own sub-genre. They were largely inspirational for many subgenres that came about in the last 20 to 25 years. Because the song followed verse/chorus 1-2, alternative, chorus 3 I wouldn't consider this track progressive, but I would definitely call it alternative. Even though they fit into the pop song pattern they make it sound really unorthodox with strange chord progressions. It's definitely progressive in that sense, so I get what you mean when you say "psychedelic/progressive". Radiohead never seems exactly like other music groups. I think it's just because they do their own scrappy ideas and don't end up falling into cliché.
@karwashblark7499
@karwashblark7499 10 ай бұрын
Idk personally I never felt that the song structure was the determining factor over whether something is progressive or not. I.e. you can follow the traditional verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge etc model, and still be a total prog band if your rhythms or harmonies or melodies are prog. And in reverse, I can easily imagine a pop artist breaking that song layout while still remaining extremely pop... This is a progressive rock song. Radiohead is a progressive rock band. No matter how much they themselves might try to deny it. They of course incorporate many other genres, but progressive rock is the core of it, and this song is a great example of that IMO

Yorke, with his peroxide blond hair, was asked if his music was ‘pop’ to which he answered: “Yesss,” he says slowly. “My definition of pop is tapping into something,” Yorke added. “My ideal pop song is one that says something people want to hear lyrically and that grabs them by the neck musically - and one that has some sort of depth that moves it beyond a happy tune that you whistle at work.” Discussing specific material that he considers in the realm of pop, the Radiohead singer added: “Songs like ‘Under Pressure’, something that makes you want to fall down on your knees. That to me is the perfect pop song.”

Very Nice choice of song to react to and the video is also amazing. I absolutely love the band and have done for years so fantastic live they are. I think Radiohead are very hard to pin down to where they belong in the music scene. But I don’t think that really matters as they clearly are not bothered by any of that nonsense and just knock down any boundaries or limitations in their path which I have always admired. I just wish more artists were like this…. Great reaction keep up the amazing work mate.

I think "alternative rock" covers it. Those are the radio stations that streamed Radiohead back in the 90's and occasionally to this day. "Alternative" is certainly one waying of describing Radiohead's contrarian style (like moving away from verse-chorus-verse lyrics, weird time signatures, etc.). They made it big then discovered their niche.

i'm not a producer so I don't know the lingo, but I love how Radiohead can simultaneously sound so futuristic and slick, while also being tactile and organic. Like you can really hear the intimacy of the instruments and voices etc. Like Beatles before them... I think the producer was a significant part of their sound and success. I'd call Radiohead a form of psychedelic art-rock (vague I know). It's progressive as well, but confined usually within 4-5 mins which I appreciate. They get their statement across without rushing nor over dwelling. I understand the Tool comparison. They were my fav band for years but now I think i prefer Radiohead (at least in terms of listening time). They just have that much more variety when it comes to melody and song structure. Tool has a great sound... but they so often refer to the same "bag of tricks" so to speak. They're amazingly good at that bag of tricks of course.
